Throughout the coaching career, Jim Bob Cooter, the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, had to fight against Lou Anarumo and his plastic defensive program.
So, from an offensive perspective, what does it feel like, having to face Anarumo's defense?
Cooter recently said: "On both sides of this thing, the different looks and changes are really good in this league."
Anarumo was known as the "mad scientist" during her time as defensive coordinator in Cincinnati, bringing a very flexible defensive system to Indianapolis. Like any coordinator, Anarumo has his core principles that he will rely on and build defenses, but he also quickly adjusts, whether it's week to week or in the game, based on the opponent's work.
Another aspect of the program is that it will easily shape the Colts’ skills on the lineup. In this way, Anarumo puts his players in the maximum position to maximize their abilities, which will allow them to play quickly and make an impact.
“I think the changes on both sides of the ball can make it more difficult to scout and prepare for your opponent,” Kurt said. “So when people can give you multiple aspects every week, every week or sometimes in this business, we try to guess or project what your opponent will do, you set your game plan as a guess or forecast, then it comes on game day and you come on game day and it can make your game plan more complex. It can make your game plan less and it can make your effectiveness and coach more diverse, and you can adjust more coaches.
Keep the quarterback balanced and guess as much as possible the name of the game. To achieve this, Anarumo deploys a lot of masking usage.
First, this may be on the offensive board for the week and preparing for a lot of movies to watch. But during the game, the quarterback saw that the possibility of a forward hit might not be the same as the highest point he fell. The minor hesitation that may result is all the sprinter needs to go home or throw a lane to close.
GM Chris Ballard spent a lot of time on free agent defense, bringing Charvarius Ward and Cam Bynum, but joining Anarumo and his versatile defense will also be a key factor in improving the force.
