An out-of-control kangaroo named Sheila closed a section of the interstate in Alabama on Tuesday until state police and animal owners turned around the willful pestle.
Alabama law enforcement agencies said the Kangaroo was found jumping Tuesday along Interstate 85, Macon County between Montgomery and Auburn. The agency said the Kangaroo crashed two vehicles but was reportedly not injured.
The sight pierced into traffic and state police closed the sides of the interstate to ensure the safety of the motorists. Captain Jeremy J. Burketer of Alabama law enforcement agency said the animal owner and soldiers were able to capture it.
"When someone says there is a kangaroo, I certainly don't believe it, but I'm looking at him," Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson said in a Facebook live video while capturing animals.
The owner uses darts to calm the animals.
Brunson's video shows drug kangaroos being taken to the vehicle to return home. The animal was captured on one side of the interstate between Tuskegee and Auburn, the sheriff said.
"Wow. Kangaroos in Tuskegee, Alabama. Macon County. We're seeing everything here."
Patrick Starr, the owner of the animal, told the Associated Press that the animal's name was Sheila and she escaped from the fence.
"She's safely back home. She's up. She's no longer calm. She's eating. She's drinking. She's not hurt."
He said Kangaroos were treated by Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
Starr said the family runs pumpkin patches and stroking zoo, but Sheila is just a private pet.
"She is a sweet pet. I'm glad she's back home and I'm glad everyone slowed down a little bit," he said.
Austin Price, who filmed the video of an animal jumping off the interstate, said he had to briefly question whether he was seeing something.
Price said: "I heard my grandmother shout, 'Is that a kangaroo?"
He thought it might be a deer until he looked. "Yes, this is a kangaroo."
Kangaroos are indigenous to Australia, but police responded to escaped marsupials for the second time in at least six months. Police in southwestern Colorado last October Captured a kangaroo That had fled his home and returned him safely to his master.
