St. Paul - São Paulo (AP) - Her religious congregation said that Brazil's nun and teacher, sisters Inah Canabarro, are the oldest people in the world, and his religious congregation said that his religious congregation said died Wednesday only a few weeks ago.
Her Jesus, Saint Teresa, accompanied Sister Teresa, said Canabarro died of natural causes. She was identified as the oldest person in the world by Longeviquest in January, a group that tracked the global supercenter people.
She would have turned 117 on May 27. According to Longeviquest, the oldest person in the world is now Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old British woman.
Canabarro said her Catholic faith was a videotape taken in February 2024 by Longeviquest.
“I’m young, beautiful and friendly – you also have very good, positive qualities,” Sister Teres told visitors at the retirement home in the city of Porto, the southern Brazilian city of Alegre.
As a kid, Inah Canabarro's sister was so thin that many people think she can't survive as an adult, her 84-year-old nephew Cleber Canabarro told the Associated Press in January
Her great-grandfather was a famous Brazilian general who raised her weapons during the turbulent period after Brazil's independence from Portugal in the 19th century.
She worked in religious work as a teenager, stayed in Montevideo, Uruguay for two years before moving to Rio de Janeiro, and eventually settled in her hometown of Rio Grande Do. The teacher of her former students was General Joao Figueiredo, the last military dictator to rule Brazil between 1964 and 1985. She is also the beloved creator of two parade bands in the sister city, crossing the border between Uruguay and Brazil.
During her 110th birthday, she was honored by Pope Francis. She is the second oldest nun ever, second only to Lucile Randon, the oldest man in the world until she died in 2023 at the age of 118.
According to longeviquest, Canabarro seized the title of the oldest man after the death of tomiko itooka in Japan. According to longeviquest, she is the 20th recorded person to live in history, a list of French woman Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 at the age of 122.
“Her long and meaningful life touched many people and her legacy as a devout educator, religious sister and a supercenter will be greatly admired.”
Her order said the awakening of Canabarro will be held Thursday in Porto Alegre, the southern capital of Rio Grande.
