American bar and restaurant brand TGI Fridays is preparing for a major brand reboot and repositioning, which is scheduled to debut on July 4, 2025, in line with Independence Day.
After the restart, the UK TGI Fridays franchise was acquired by Breal Capital and Calveton in 2024, saving 51 locations from closing.
The brand’s revival is led by CEO Julie McEwan, who is working with the team to reverse the brand’s decline, according to Simon Wilkinson, the board director and operating partner of TGI FRIDAYS and EVOLV COLLUCTY.
In a LinkedIn post, Wilkinson described the initiative as “a comeback of all comebacks.”
"TGI has had a tough time on Friday over the past few years," he said.
“We got the business in October and rescued the business from management. When people should praise investors for putting their money into saving a high-profile brand, the opposite is that you have to save some places and have to create redundancy and get criticized.
He added: "Now it's a tough problem to turn around a brand that has lost it in about seven years. In the current market, it's a heavy lifting that requires the work of everyone associated with the brand. Without guarantees, boldness, heroism, courage, hard work, hard work, hard work and commitment may not be enough."
"But, as a collective, we will do our best. Under Julie McEwan, the team is working hard to restore decline and reposition the brand."
Breal and Calveton's October acquisition in the last year was a key move, retaining most of the TGI Fridays UK websites.
However, this transition is not without its challenges, as two other locations, including flagship Leicester Square, have since closed, the chain owns 49 restaurants in the UK.
Financial difficulties faced by former TGI FRIDAYS owner Hostmore highlighted the need to rebrand, which entered the government in September 2024 after halting its full acquisition of TGI FRIDAYS's U.S. operations.
In recent developments, the U.S.-based chain has declared bankruptcy and has received court approval to sell its nine company-owned restaurants for $34.5 million.
“TGI Fridays, which was rebooted for the brand on Independence Day, was originally created and published by GlobalData-owned brand Dredict Food Service.
