The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern Texas Region announced Friday that a Houston woman faces federal charges in the alleged threat of a machete.

Jennifer Jesselle Perez-Rodriguez, 28, was detained and charged with assaulting law enforcement officers in connection with the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, agents drove along Anderson Road in an unmarked car as Perez-Rodriguez allegedly walked into the road with a machete. The woman then began to swing the machete and move towards two of the cars.

The complaint said that when Perez-Rodriguez started running towards them, agents activated the sirens in one of the cars. An agent opened the door and directed her to drop the machete, which she refused to do.

The complaint said that because Perez-Rodriguez failed to follow the order, the agent pulled out his gun and began shooting her until she was no longer threatened. She was taken to the hospital with a gun injured.
