Texas A&M vs. South Carolina Softball Score: Live Update

The No. 1 Texas A&M finally competed in the SEC Championship in the quarterfinals against South Carolina on Thursday night.

Aggies (43-9, 16-7) finished second in the game after a series defeat to Tennessee 2-1. A&M has never won the SEC Championship since joining the conference in 2012, but the Aggies won the 2008 Big 12 Championship.

Oklahoma lost the season-end series but got better win rates than runner-up A&M in conference games, but dropped the national rankings with better win rates in games.

Led by senior pitcher Emiley Kennedy (19-4, 2.57 ERA), A&M hopes to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive year. For the Aggies, offensive weapons are endless, with lead hitting junior third baseman Kennedy Powell leading the team run (53); sophomore designated hitter Mya Perez ranked seventh in the county with a .581 hit rate, with an impressive group of freshmen including KK Dement and Frankie Vrazel standing out in large part.

In order to head to the semifinals on Friday, A&M must fight, surpassing the seventh seed of South Carolina.

The Gamecocks, ranked by major polls throughout the season, beat Alabama 3-2 on Wednesday night. But they haven't made it to the top five since then. March 3 LSU.

Large teenager Arianna Rodi leads home runs (16) and RBI (50); teammate Karley Shelton leads in running (52) and hit percentage (63). Three of South Carolina’s five pitchers boast about the era under 3.00. Junior Jori Heard (16-3, 2.75 ERA) led 122 innings with 103 strikeouts and gave up 12 home runs.

The new champion will be crowned a few days after the game begins as Florida's dominant champion was frustrated by Ole Miss in an additional inning Wednesday. The winner of A&M-South Carolina will play the title of Texas-Or in the semifinals.
