Texans' Chris Boyd breaks silence on pushing coach incident: 'I just turned around'

Houston Texans cornerback Chris Boyd shocked NFL viewers on Saturday by throwing his helmet and shoving the special teams coach after the first game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Boyd chased down Chiefs wide receiver Nico Remgio to prevent a possible opening touchdown. He dropped the ball and the Chiefs recovered. Seemingly unable to control his emotions, he ran to the sideline, ripped off his helmet and pushed Frank Ross to the ground.

He spoke about the incident after the game.

"I got the ball out," Boyd said. "When I stood up, I looked at the screen and saw nothing but white and they were all pointing that way. So I thought, 'Oh, yeah, we got the ball, too. Turnover.' And I just converted." "

Boyd credited Houston with recovering the fumble. There was also a penalty flag on the field as he was disciplined for taking off his helmet.

"I just got too excited and did something I shouldn't have done. Learn from it," Boyd said. "Put on my helmet."

Boyd said he apologized to the team after the incident and had no ill will toward Rose.

"He told me, 'Hey, listen, don't worry about this,'" Boyd said. "We've got a full game to play, but I just wanted to make my point. Like I said, I'm not that guy."

Texans head coach DeMeco Reigns, who didn't see the move, condemned the incident.

"What I saw was we couldn't throw away the helmets on the first play," Reigns said. "That's not what we teach. That's not what we're about at all."

The Chiefs won the game 22-14.
