Tennessee Baseball and Vanderbilt started with a tense first inning moment in the series finale and ended with a more nervous attitude.
The teams had a brief bluehaha on the handshake line after Vanderbilt beat Tennessee 7-5 to compete series since 2021, with Vanderbilt defeating Tennessee 7-5.
"It's overrated," Vitello said. "Their guys were watching our canoe when they were five years old, but it was a vibrant day. So you blame them? That's the fields where Hunter Ensley was there. So I think he was a man-I don't know who was the first to say that, I don't want to say that, but if you stand by them, you yell. If you stand by us, you yell, "Don't do that in our field" or "You're a poor winner." It's blown up."
After Cannon Peebles knocked back with the loaded base, Vanderbilt players seemed to yell at the Tennessee canoe at the beginning of the handshake.
Ensley was at third base when Peebles hit, and he seemed an exception, with Vanderbilt rushing into the field as he headed to the field. Ensley and Commodores players Mike Mancini and Jacob Humphrey exchanged words behind the handshake line.
Vanderbilt pitcher Ethan McElvain shouted to the Tennessee Canoe, telling Vols to leave the field as tensions surged.
Tennessee coaches calmed down between teams as Vanderbilt players pointed out the scoreboard.
"I didn't know what happened until I was in the middle, but it was just two emotional teams trying to perform," Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said. "You know boys are going to be boys."
Andrew Fischer was homered in the first inning on the right goal-scoring board and yelled at Vanderbilt's players. He started with pitcher Connor Fennell, who was upset with his opponent this season.
"What would you do?" said Vitero. "The pitcher can do what he does (sumes quickly). Then why doesn't he do that?"
Fischer kicked in the infields of Fennell and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt Dugout shouted to Fischer, who yelled. Vanderbilt catcher Colin Barczi was involved when the referee stepped in to prevent any escalation.
Fischer waved fans to the crowd of Lindsey Nelson Stadium and warned both teams.
"I don't blame Fisch for his approach," Vitello said. "I don't blame them for celebrating the victory."
