Syria says Israel's attack on DERAA causes "significant" losses | Syria's war news

The Israeli military said it responded to two projectile launches and shelled the target in Syria.

Syrian News Agency reported that the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned an Israeli strike against the Syrian province DERAA, saying it caused "huge human and material losses."

The strike happened when the Israeli military said the projectiles crossed Israel from Syria on Tuesday and fell into an open area of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, although the Syrian Foreign Ministry said these were "unconfirmed reports".

The ministry reiterated that Syria does not and will pose a threat to either party in the region.

It is not clear who is responsible for the projectile.

"We believe there are many political parties that may attempt to undermine the stability of the region in order to achieve their own interests," the ministry added.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz said he granted Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa charges the projectile.

"We believe that the Syrian president is directly responsible for any threats and fires against the State of Israel and will receive a full response soon," Katz said.

Syria and Israel recently held indirect negotiations to ease tensions, a major development in relations between countries in the conflict in the Middle East for decades.

Several Arab and Palestinian media outlets have spread the responsibility of a little-known group, Mohammed Dev, which is apparently referring to Hamas' military leader who died in a 2024 Israeli strike.

The group's statement cannot be verified independently.

Israeli troops said it attacked southern Syria after Israel launched the projectile.

Residents say Israeli mortars are in the Wadi Yarmouk area west of Deraa province near the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Tensions in the region have increased in recent weeks, including reported Israeli military invasions in nearby villages, where residents have been reportedly banned from sowing crops.

Israel carried out an air bombing campaign that destroyed much of Syria's military infrastructure. It has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights since the Arab-Israel War in 1967 and occupied more territory after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was removed from office in December, citing the past of the country's new government has attracted attention.

While Israel reported the Syrian projectile, the Israeli military said it intercepted a missile from Yemen.

Yemeni-Iran-affiliated Hushis said they aimed Israel's Jaffa with ballistic missiles. During Israel's war in Gaza, the group has been launching attacks on Israel in support of the Palestinians.
