Dubai-based sales agency Cercamon won international sales rights for the family drama "Omaha" after winning a global premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival, amid dramatic competition in the United States.
Cole Webley's feature director debut will screen global buyers on the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Greenwich Entertainment previously secured North American distribution rights in an agreement with UTA Independent Film Group and plans to release the drama later this year.
Written by Webley and Robert Machoian ("The Killing of Two Lovers"), "Omaha" follows a struggling wives (John Magaro, "Past Lives") who take his kids on an unexpected cross-country trip after a family tragedy. As the journey progresses, his daughter begins to suspect that something is incorrect. Newcomers Molly Belle Wright and Wyatt Solis play the kids, and experienced actress Talia Balsam brings the actors into roles.
"Director Cole Webley's debut album "Intimate Range in Its Scope, but emotionally huge, works in the script of filmmaker Robert Robert Machoian, whose "Kill of Two Lovers" observes another father from Central America in crisis - how spontaneous the interactions seem to emanate on the camera, as it is said in reality" type Review.
“We fell in love with Sundance and fell in love with Omaha on Sundance and we will never be happy to add it to our slabs again. ‘Omaha’ is a rare film that blends heart and authenticity and we believe it will attract our audience like we do, just like us,” said Sébastien Chesneau, CEO of Cercamon. “Cole Webley’s voice as a filmmaker is extraordinary, and his debut featured universal emotional resonance that transcends the boundaries.”
Webley added: "It was delightful to see my debut in Sundance embracing 'Omaha'. I'm so happy to work with Cercamon to bring this story of family, sadness and hope for audiences around the globe. Our cast and crew put their hearts into this film, which means a passionate team champion for international audiences."
Producer Preston Lee said: "It is crucial for our production team that the powerful story of 'Omaha' has attracted the audience widely and we can't partner better than Cercamon to achieve that. From day one, their passion for "Omaha" was obvious. We are excited to continue the journey."
