The Pittsburgh Steelers set new goals for the quarterback next season.
The Steelers struck a one-year, $2 million deal with veteran wide receiver Robert Woods on Monday, . He will join Pittsburgh’s already spacious reception room, which includes George Pickens and DK Metcalf, who were traded to Pittsburgh in March.

Woods had 203 catch yards and had no score last season, and he won the second game in Texas. Woods will now enter his 13th season in the league this fall, and the Steelers will mark his fifth NFL team. Buffalo Bills first picked Woods in the 2013 NFL Draft and ranked 41st in the USC draft, then spent some time with the Los Angeles Rams and the Tennessee Titans before landing in Houston.
Woods won’t be the top Pittsburgh figure, but he will be a solid veteran in the locker room, ready to work around the new quarterback this fall. During the offseason, the Steelers repeatedly contacted Aaron Rodgers, but the former Green Bay Packers star hasn't decided on his future yet - whether in Pittsburgh or retired together. Rogers is expected to make a decision in the near future, but there is no clear timetable.
"It's certainly a possibility," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told the NFL Network. "I won't predict the IFS and when not only to him, but also to no other potential free agents. We've had productive negotiations with him, and I'm happy to have a productive conversation with him and have met him."
The Steelers also chose Ohio State quarterback Will Howard last weekend. Now, he will join Pittsburgh’s Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, although the team has no clear starter. Justin Fields and Russell Wilson shared their starting duties last season, but both have signed elsewhere since. Howard put in 4,010 yards and 35 touchdowns while leading the Buckeyes to the national championship last season.

"It's not something that's going on the field, or if I play right away, it's going to get better, it's going to learn," Howard said via ESPN. "Whoever is in the room with me, who is competing with us there, I can't wait to dig deeper into this situation and really put all of me into practice because that's what I do, man. I don't do half of it, I'll go all out and my next step for the Pittsburgh Steelers will be great for me."
Whether it’s Howard, Rogers or starting roles in Pittsburgh’s starting role this fall, it remains to be seen. Meanwhile, adding a move to receivers like Woods can only help transition more easily for those running the offense within a few months.
