Source: Jessie Marsch Close to Tristan Blackmon

Sources told ESPN that Canadian men's national team manager Jesse Marsch had a discussion with Vancouver white defender Tristan Blackmon.

Blackmon, 28, has spent part of his last four seasons and has provided some great performances during Vancouver's CONCACAF Champions League final, during which it will face Mexico City's Cruz Azul on June 1.

A source will discuss the feature of being exploratory in nature, and Montenegro takes a waiting approach to determine whether he will be summoned to the U.S. men's national team. The preliminary roster of 60 people in the Golden Cup is scheduled to be announced on Monday.

The Las Vegasian has no Canadian citizenship, but sources told ESPN that if he decides to continue to propose the proposal, the Canadian Football Association is ready to try fast racing Blackmon to apply for a Canadian passport.

Under Article 5(4) of the Canadian Citizenship Act, "the minister may grant citizenship to anyone at his discretion to reward Canada's special value services." The idea is that Blackmon will receive his passport sometime before the 2026 World Cup football match, but also have enough time to adapt to the Canadian national team setup.

Canada grants citizenship to American athletes. World champion figure skater Deanna Stellato-Dudek became a Canadian citizen in December, clearing the way for her to compete with partner Maxime Deschamps at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

Canada will co-host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and the United States

Blackmon has never appeared internationally for the United States on any level, although he was in the initial roster of the USMNT training camp held last January.

He played college football at Pacific University in Stockton, California. He started as a right-back before making his debut for LAFC in 2018. He also paid loans with USL champion team Phoenix Rise in 2018 and 2019. Overall, at the pro level, Blackmon has made 217 appearances in all games and scored nine goals.

Blackmon is part of the 2019 LAFC supporter championship-winning team and is part of three Canadian title teams, with the Whites in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
