30 film producers were shortlisted for the Sony Future Filmmaker Award.
Filmmakers have been selected for originality in novels, non-fiction, animation and student filmmaking. From June 2 to 5, the finalists will have the opportunity to participate in a four-day immersive program behind the scenes of the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.
The award ceremony will be held on June 5.
Creo has partnered with Sony to build awards to develop tomorrow’s filmmaking talent and provide a portal for filmmakers from around the world. Every year, shortlisted film producers fly to Los Angeles to attend extensive workshops, screenings and events, promoting talent through opportunities to expand the network of film producers and provide them with direct experiences in the heart of Hollywood.
The shortlist was selected from 11,750 films submitted by more than 7,500 filmmakers in 158 countries and regions. Australia, Burundi, Chile, Colombia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States are all represented on the short list.
Selected works are scattered with a variety of stories, including a dramatic renewal of a prisoner fighting a parole blurring machine in a historic fire.
The panel of industry leaders includes film producer and writer Minhal Baig (We're growing now"); 3,000 images President Elizabeth Gabler ("crawdads sing"; Jason Reitman; Jason Reitman ("Saturday Night"); jury and jury Justin Chadwick ("Mandela: "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedel").
"These 30 filmmakers not only tell stories, they create a whole new world of cinema," Chadwick said in a statement.

Bijan Gashti (Islamic Republic of Iran) was named the winner of this year's Future Format Competition, which supports a new generation of aspiring filmmakers by welcoming short films specifically shot on smartphones. “Choose/or”, explores the tension between control and free will when an individual obtains a single instruction. As part of the prize, Gashti received Sony’s digital imaging device and was invited to participate in the June four-day immersive program at Sony Pictures Studios.
The finalist of the filmmaker in the Future Format Competition is Joni Astin Ariadi (Indonesia), with a "sleeping monster", while Siwei Yu (Mainland China) has "love is the ending".
