Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min accepted the Spurs legend tag after lifting the club's first trophy in 17 years after winning Wednesday's Europa League final.
The Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in Spain due to Brennan Johnson's first half goal. It is the first European Cup since the North London club won the British League Cup and European Championship in 2008 and the first European Championship since its second European Cup.
The trophy is also the first son who joined Tottenham Hotspur 10 years ago to win his club career. His only silverware before was to win the Asian competition against South Korea in 2018.
He said at the start of the season that he wanted to be a Spurs legend but was not entitled to the honor yet, and his son was asked after the victory if he now thinks he deserves himself.
"Suppose I am a legend. Why not? Only today!" my son told TNT Sports.
“No one has done this for seventeen years, so having such a great player is today. Today, I might say I am a legend in this club.
"I feel great. This is something I've always dreamed about, and today is the day it happened. The dream is really, really real. I'm so happy. I'm the happiest person in the world."
The son has just recently returned from a foot injury and sat down from the bench in the Wednesday final in the 67th minute. After the final whistle, he celebrated wildly with his teammates - later - wearing the Korean flag - to pay tribute to the fans in the stands.
The championship guarantees a place in the Champions League next season and helps save a frustrating season, with the club ranked 17th in the Premier League ahead of the final round.
"When you look at the whole season, there are always things that you have had tough times, but we are always in trouble as players," the 32-year-old son said.
"Young players always step up their efforts. I always try to give them good advice and speak positively. I'm lucky that I have a great group of players and I."
Just a few weeks ago, the son congratulated his former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane. After Kane left the Spurs and joined Bayern Munich, Kane finally won his first trophy in his career.
The son and Kane teamed up to win one of the best offensive partners in the Premier League, scoring more goals with any other offensive duo in the game. Kane had to move to Bayern to finally win his first trophy. But the son can still do it when the Spurs.
The son was with Kane when Tottenham lost to Liverpool as another all-English decision-maker. The son was the only starter in that game still at Tottenham Hotspur.
"I feel stressed," the son said. "I want it so much. I dreamt about this game every day for the last seven days. It finally happened and I can fall asleep easily now and I can enjoy it.
"Today is the day we can celebrate, so let's be a day we will never forget, maybe I'll miss the flight tomorrow!"
