Rapper-turned-tycoon Snoop Dogg is getting hot for his performance at the Crypto Ball, held ahead of Donald Trump’s January 20 inauguration in Washington, D.C. an activity.
When video emerged of the rapper performing at a Friday night event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium and hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks, fans expressed outrage and shock online. The Shade Room posted a video of Snoop performing on stage with Rick Ross and Soulja Boy, and the comments section was filled with outrage sound The judge's decision. "This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful," one comment read. "No check in the world is worth selling my soul to the devil..." another commenter commented.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon covered the performance on his live broadcast, Lemon Live 5 o'clockwondered aloud if Snoop and other black hip-hop artists were “sellouts (or) liars who only care about a dollar?”
Actress Amanda Sears criticized the rapper and took to social media with the receipt, mashing up his performance with a video from Snoop's Instagram from years ago, questioning which artist will be the first to A performer for Trump. "I'm waiting," the 53-year-old said in the resurfaced video, promising to "roast" anyone. "I hope it was worth it," Sears said in the video.
The video Sears reposted is one of several circulating videos of Snoop criticizing the president-elect. In July 2016, the rapper posted a video of himself smoking to YG and the late Nipsey Hussle's anti-Trump protest song "FDT" on Instagram. "We're not voting for you punk asshole," Snoop said in the video. Snoop later released a video for "Nightfall Remix" featuring BADBADNOTGOOD's "Lavendar," in which he shoots a Donald Trump impersonator with a toy gun.
In 2019, during the government shutdown, the rapper had harsh words for Trump. "All of you who support the federal government and don't get paid right now, there's no way you're going to vote for Donald Trump when he comes back," Snoop said of the 2020 presidential election. "If y'all voted for him, you're a bunch of stupid assholes," he continued.
Snoop has yet to comment on the performance on social media, instead reposting an Instagram Story of him and Rose from the event. To his credit, the Southern California native has been mobilizing his fans to donate and distribute needed items to those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. The series took place last week at his Snoopermarket in Inglewood.
According to its official website, the inaugural Crypto Ball is described as “a celebration designed to commemorate… America’s first ‘Crypto President,’ President-elect Donald J. Trump, his incoming Cabinet and administration.”
President-elect Trump will be sworn in on Monday.
