The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is under criminal investigation after Smokey Robinson is charged with sexual assault.
"The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Victims Department is actively investigating criminal charges involving William Robinson, aka Smokey Robinson. The investigation is in an early stage and we have no further comments."
In response to the investigation, Robinson's attorney Christopher Frost wrote in a statement: "We know that the plaintiff has now filed a police report in a civil lawsuit. It's obvious to us. What's going on here is that the plaintiff only filed a police report after filing a $50 million lawsuit. This means that the police only requested an investigation into the police."
"We welcome the investigation, involving the plaintiffs who continue to hide their identity, because it is a powerful thing to the truth," the statement continued. "We feel confident that we will decide that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, a desperate attempt to bias public opinion and make the media circus more like the media circus that was previously able to create. The record will eventually prove that it is nothing more than a manufactured lawsuit intended to make Smoky and Frances Robinson's justifications compared to other reasons.
The investigation comes more than a week after the famous Motown singer and record producer was sued by four women who served as housekeepers of sexual assault and rape for him.
In the complaint, the anonymous woman accused Robinson of raped them at several of his residences, mainly at his home in Chadsworth, California. The reasons for litigation listed include negligence, sexual assault, assault, false imprisonment and hostile work environments, and other claims.
Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, was also appointed as the defendant in the lawsuit, with the woman claiming she “has not taken appropriate corrective measures to prevent the defendant Robinson’s misconduct.”
Robinson denied the allegations, calling them "evil" and "false," Frost said earlier: "The evidence shows that this is just an ugly way to try to withdraw money from the 85-year-old American idol - $50 million to be precise."
