LOS ANGELES - Shohei Ohtani's "Dad Power" is finally starting as Dodgers' slugger started his first home run Tuesday night with a 15-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday night.
"It's a great home run," Ohtani said through an interpreter. "I haven't hit a guy since I became a father, so it's a good guy to be able to do that."
Whether it is mythology or statistically proven facts, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts firmly believes in "dad power", a theory that some players gain physical strength and stamina when entering their father. MLB.com's research department found that 28 of the more than 200 batsmen who resumed their actions from their father's list between 2011 and 2024 had home runs in their first game.
"Now he's the father, we're probably going to see an exit speed of about 120 mph," Roberts said last week.
2024 National League MVP Ohtani hit .125 (16-2) with zero RBI and 6 3-pointers in his first four games.
But in his last four games, Ohtani hit the .467 (15 out of 15) with one home run, triple-double, triple and two RBIs, and he hit a home run in Sandy Alcantara Tuesday night, giving his bat a 114 mph and traveling 394 feet.
"That was a huge tone," Roberts said of Ohtani's 14th professional lead Homer. "I think we're based on shohei, and of course the command priority. Letting him after the first game, the first game their starter throws will definitely get stuck in our offense and we just took it from there.
Ohtani's home run triggered a first inning of three straight wins, with the Dodgers continuing 18 hits, including four from Teoscar Hernández, who ran four out of four runs with 31 RBIs as major league leaders, while Andy's third place was highlighted by Andy's third page, with an eight-inning home run.
The game was a blowout, with the Dodgers scoring three points in the third inning, sixth in sixth and eighth teams earning positions on Mound: outfielder Javier Sanoja won the Dodgers for Marlins and Utility Mankiké Hernánandez.
Since his daughter was born on April 19, Ohtani is still trying to adapt to her fatherhood, especially the interruption of his sleep schedule. Ohtani likes to sleep at least 10 hours a night and take long naps before the game.
"For example, today I went to the hospital and went straight to the hospital," Otani said. "I can only spend some time at home, but on the way, it will be a challenge because I won't be here."
" ...but I appreciate the safe delivery. I'm glad that even if I can't sleep as much as I want it, it's a good sleep condition."
