LOS ANGELES - The New York Yankees return to Dodger Stadium, the location for a star-studded World Series and an incredible game, known as one of the most anticipated games of the season. It started in an unprecedented way - Aaron Judge Homering was at the top of the first game, while shohei ohtani answered in the second half, which was the first time two home runs in the same inning in the same game.
In the end, Ohtani prevailed.
The Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way phenomenon added another home run to sixth place, with four rallyings against formerly dominant Max Fried on Friday night and an 8-5 victory on Friday night. Ohtani has now gone 15 times in May, earning the most home runs in a month.
"He impressed," the judge said. "He is one of the best players in the game, and there's a reason. Once he's back on the mound, what he can do in the box is special."
Ohtani is expected to face the batsman in a live practice game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, his second in six days. His pitching progress has been steady in recent weeks, but he is not expected to join the Dodgers in need of rotation until some time after the All-Star game. Meanwhile, Ohtani remains a force on offense, defeating .294/.394/.670 with 11 stolen bases and a major league-leading 22 home runs, three more than the second-place judge, with an average hit score of .392.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman said of Ohtani: “I heard the ode to the MVP tonight and he’s really good on the way to do it again.”
The Dodgers beat the Yankees in five World Series games last fall to win their first all-season title in 36 years. Arguably, it's a showdown between the two most famous franchises, both with swollen payroll and star lineups. Seven months later, the same goes for the rematch decoration. If Mookie Betts does not have a persistent toe fracture, which is expected to keep him unchanged throughout the weekend series, Friday’s game will mark the first time in Major League Baseball history, with three former MVPs living in each roster in the same game.
The judge and Ohtani are clear headlines, though - both follow the ad. Ohtani's home run twice; the judge's home run, tripled, and made a sensational dive deep in the gap in the right center field, snatching Teoscar Hernandez's extra base.
"Some stars did shine tonight," said Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
Blasting is of course one of them. The star lefty started with the Yankees with a 7-0 record and 1.29 ERA with a 1.29 record in his first 11 games and led 5-2 when he put the mound into the sixth inning.
The Dodgers then came back all the way and won their infamous five-game memory in World Series Game 5. Ohtani started to the right field with a towering home run. Hernandez and Will Smith added back-to-back singles. Freeman lags behind the judge with an average of 0.368, adding anti-field RBI doubles. Andy's page drove in another game, Michael Conforto took the sixth Dodgers' sixth place in the footsteps of the base.
The Dodgers added two more pages of two singles to seventh, and a serious bullpen – a car that lost Evan Phillips to Tommy John’s surgery and had four other high-leverage reliefers on the injured roster – retaining the Yankees for the rest of the process.
When asked if this reminded him of the Dodgers’ five-game World Series comeback, Freeman conveyed the Grand Slam in Game 1, saying he “had never actually considered it.”
“That was a really good ball game to beat Max Fried, who is probably one of the top five pitchers in the game right now. It’s hard to score a lot.
