Hannah Perales' results are not results. But looking back on her high school career, the senior student at Santa Gertrudis Academy was pleased with the job she was able to accomplish.
Perales is a member of the 2023 Santa Gertrudis Academy team, which was promoted to the state championship and played a key role in helping the Lions return to the regional finals for the second time in three seasons.
Jourdanton ended the SGA's strong 2025 campaign with a 2-1, eighth inning victory in the Class 3A Division II Regional Finals at Tuloso-Midway High School on Friday, May 16.
Perales leads the club by tag team and leads her last high school game with two hits.
“Honestly, I have a lot of confidence in our team,” Perales said. “It’s not as good as we wanted, but I’m happy to play and I’m ready to move on.”
Perales is one of three seniors who graduated, but are confident that the Lions will play the playoffs again in 2026.
SGA overcomes losses from five seniors this year and returns to the fourth round of the playoffs.
“Seeing all young girls growing up and gaining a lot of confidence, that means a lot,” Perales said. “They are going to do great things and I’m so happy to see what they do next year and in the next few years.”
Friday night's matchup against Jourdanton was featured with a duel between Jourdanton starter Hailey Sralik and SGA's D'Andra Fernandez.
Fernandez allowed one game in five innings and hit five innings to keep the game intact throughout the night. Sralik was superb in the circle after allowing 1 run in eight innings with 12 strikeouts.
Even SGA's Natalia Escobedo maintained the game with five strikeouts in five innings, providing a circle of elevators.
Jourdanton won the first inning of the game in the fourth inning of Jill Martinez in the RBI singles. SGA's Arabella DeLeon tied the RBI doubles for the sixth time, then Jourdanton's Sydney Floyd won the game with RBI doubles for the eighth time.
"I appreciate their pitchers," said SGA head coach Thomas de Los Santos. "There is a reason she (Hailey Sralik) wants to play college. Her change is today, and when we face her two years ago, that change isn't there. Today, it's getting us a lot of adjustments. We have a lot of basemen. We have basemen. We just can't finish the game. We have too many players in the scoring position."
De Los Santos believes that the Lions will return to the regional finals, possibly even further.
The Lions will return to a large roster next season, including the pitching duo of major players K'Lee Bazan and Fernandez and Escobedo.
"We lost five girls who continued to go to college and then went back to the fourth round," Delos Santos said. "I really impressed them. I hope we're back next year. Mathematically, we should be better with a few girls who didn't start helping us this year."
