Pittsburgh - Four-time MVP quarterbacks come to those waiting.
etc. etc.
The group announced Thursday that Aaron Rodgers agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending his uncertainty over the coming months and combining a future Hall of Fame with a club that desperately needs a quarterback.
The Steelers said the contract is waiting for the body.
The news comes more than 80 days since the start of free agents, 70 days after 41-year-old Rodgers visited the Steelers. Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Rodgers plans to fly to Pittsburgh on Friday and join the Steelers ahead of next week's mandatory mini-training camp.
Sources told Schefter that the Steelers never believed Rodgers would eventually sign with them.
The deal with Pittsburgh held a week-1 showdown between Rodgers and his former team, the New York Jets, who will host the Steelers in the season opener.
Rodgers has been linked with the Steelers throughout the offseason, especially after Pittsburgh chose to leave Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as free agents. Rodgers visited the team’s practice facilities on March 21 and kept in touch with the club while weighing his decisions for the next two months.
The Steelers did not use high draft picks at the quarterback in April, and he will be in a mandatory offseason plan with Mason Rudolph as a starter.
The long-time Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is imminent throughout the process, and his source said he added that Tomlin is happy to work on the Rodgers' schedule during the offseason.
Rogers told "Pat McAfee Show" during an April 17 appearance. “I didn’t kidnap anyone.
"I'm open to anything, to nothing. Retirement may still be a possibility, but now my focus has - and will continue to exist - in my personal life. That's what I told the coach. There's still conversation. It's all very honest communication."
Rodgers, who was released by the Jets for a month in March, later held a controversial meeting with new coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey.
Rodgers joined New York in 2023 after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, winning the Super Bowl after the 2010 season. Rodgers started every game last season with his ripped Achilles after he missed his first season throughout his first season, but his overall performance was unbalanced. He passed 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, both of which ranked third in the Jets’ single-season record list, but he also had 11 interceptions and ended with a 48.1 QBR - 25th out of 32 qualified passers in the NFL.
The Jets were under-at-scoring in 2024, ranking 24th in scoring and became one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL last season with a 5-12 record.
Meanwhile, the Steelers added a quarterback room while awaiting Rodgers’ decision, reunited with Rudolph after a former third-round draft pick spent a season at Tennessee.
While the group remains firmly convinced Rodgers won’t influence its draft plan, the team also bypassed quarterbacks in early rounds and waited until the sixth pick Ohio State quarterback Will Howard.
When the Steelers built the roster and called up in Pittsburgh's Southside Practice Facility to start a voluntary offseason workout, Rodgers held a throwing meeting with new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, who acquired Pittsburgh in free agency Eve eve with Seahawks.
Rogers also attended Kentucky Derby party and a few Mikes. concert. Asked during a concert stop, Rodgers was asked if he would play for the Bears. Rogers strongly hints in his answer that his decision is about to be decided.
Rogers smiled and said, "No, I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago - I don't know about road trips."
Of course, the Steelers will visit the Bears in Week 12.
Rodgers also received a proposal from the Giants, who eventually signed Wilson as a one-year, $10.5 million deal on March 25, eventually exiting the issue.
Rodgers also held talks with the Vikings, but Minnesota remains committed to keeping 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy on track to become a starting quarterback.
Rogers-The news of the Steel Agreement improves Pittsburgh’s odds in the betting market. The Steelers' odds of winning AFC northwards rose from +550 to +500, and on ESPN BET, the odds of playingoffs also rose from +150 to +140.
After Rodgers News was favored by 2.5, the Steelers also scored three-pointers against ESPN BET in their season opener.
ESPN's Rich Cimini contributed to the report.
