President-elect Donald Trump is running in 2024 as an anti-establishment populist ready to challenge the political class and take action on behalf of working families. I will gladly support Trump when he is ready to move in this direction. If he doesn't, I'll fight him hard.

Trump said the United States should not be paying by far the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. He is right. Under President Biden's leadership, we've made some good progress in reducing the country's outrageously high prescription drug costs, including letting Medicare negotiate prices with the pharmaceutical industry. But there is still much work to be done. I look forward to working with President Trump on legislation that ends the absurdity of Americans paying by far the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. We must have the courage to stand up to the greed of the pharmaceutical industry and drastically lower drug prices.

At a time when many financially struggling Americans are paying 20% or 30% credit card interest rates, President Trump has said he wants to cap credit card interest rates at 10%. He is right. I will soon introduce bipartisan legislation to protect Americans from fraud in the credit card industry and look forward to his support.

Bernie Sanders plans to spearhead legislation on key Trump proposals

President Trump rightly points out that disastrous trade deals such as NAFTA and the Permanent Trade Agreement with China have resulted in the loss of millions of American jobs as companies shut down U.S. manufacturing and moved abroad in search of cheap labor. Chance. As someone who strongly opposes these agreements, I look forward to working with the Trump Administration on new trade policies that protect American workers and create good-paying jobs in our country.

Some of Trump's nominees also made important points. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump's nominee for health and human services secretary, said food companies are "poisoning" our young people with highly processed foods that can lead to obesity, heart disease and other serious health problems, What he said is correct. The Trump administration and Congress must confront the greed of the food industry and create a healthier America.

Trump’s nominee for labor secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, has supported the PRO Act, which would protect workers at a time when many large companies are regularly breaking the law and engaging in illegal union-busting Join a union and negotiate for better wages, benefits and working conditions. She is right. Workers must have the right to join unions without unlawful interference from bosses. I look forward to working with the Trump Administration to enact the PRO Act into law.

No one denies that we must eliminate waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, for example, points out that he's right The Pentagon has passed seven audits unable to fully account for its more than $800 billion budget. We must make the Department of Defense more efficient, saving taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars each year and cutting spending.

But let me be clear. While I am more than willing to work with the Trump administration on areas of consensus, I have some very strong disagreements with the positions Trump has advanced.

In an era of severe income and wealth inequality, when the richest have never enjoyed it so well, it would be an outrage to provide hundreds of billions of dollars in additional tax breaks to this country's largest corporations and wealthiest people . Any new tax cuts should reach this country’s working families. Billionaires and large, profitable corporations must start paying their fair share of taxes.

Furthermore, we must not deprive millions of people of health care by slashing Medicaid and other public health programs, which is how some Republicans want to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Medicaid is a lifeline not only for millions of low-income Americans, but also for more than a million nursing home seniors and people with disabilities.

The past decade has been the warmest on record, and as a result, we've seen unprecedented extreme weather disturbances in the United States and around the world. While Los Angeles endures devastating wildfires and North Carolina continues to recover from devastating floods, Trump's claim that climate change is a "hoax" is a dangerous mistake. In fact, the entire scientific community understands that climate change is real, caused by carbon emissions, and poses a huge threat to the well-being of our children and future generations. We must join the entire international community in combating climate change.

We must not mass deport this country's 20 million people, many of whom have worked and lived here nearly their entire lives and are a vital part of our economy. We need strong border enforcement to stop illegal crossings and should deport those who have committed serious criminal offenses. But we must not tear apart millions of families, put children in cages, or unconstitutionally use the U.S. military to search immigrants door-to-door.

Trump’s Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent is wrong to oppose raising the federal minimum wage. It is unconscionable that millions of Americans continue to work for starvation wages when the $7.25 minimum wage has not been raised in 15 years. We must raise the minimum wage to a living wage: $17 an hour.

We must not allow billionaire oligarchs to bribe our government. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he wants the Republican Party to represent the needs of working people. Well, you don’t do that by surrounding yourself with the richest people in the world and having 13 billionaires in your cabinet, many of whom have direct financial interests in the industries they are responsible for regulating . Additionally, we need real campaign finance reform to prevent billionaires from both parties from buying elections.

Let us never forget that we are the richest country in the history of the world. There is no reason why 60% of Americans should be living paycheck to paycheck, why our income and wealth inequality is huge and growing, why 85 million Americans are uninsured or underinsured, and why 25% of seniors in America are living on $15,000 a year Getting by or, more simply, why young people leave college with so much debt, or why millions of families can’t afford child care. We can do better. We must do better.

I look forward to working with President Trump as he stands with this country's working families. I will vehemently oppose him when he represents the needs of the billionaire class and wealthy special interests.
