Mexico's Handshake Speakeasy ranked second for the second consecutive year.
Tucked inside the NH hotel in Mexico City, this two-level bar has won praise for its "border-out" cocktail menu and offers guests a "unforgettable, luxurious cocktail experience". Handshake Speakeasy also ranked the list of 50 best bars last year, two consecutive championships since opening in 2023.
A complete list of 50 best bars in North America unveiled at the awards ceremony held in JW Marriott Parker Vancouver on Tuesday. This is the first time the event was held in Canada, which has 7 bars on this year's list, including Toronto's bar Pompeii, ranked 7th.
New York City’s popular East Village bar Superbueno won second place this year, followed by Mexico City’s Tlecān, South New Orleans Jewelry, and New York’s Japanese-style Speakeasy, Sip & Guzzle, just celebrated its first anniversary (its location also received the highest new admission award).
This is the fourth edition of the 50 best bar list in North America that features cocktail venues from the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. The Cayman Islands’ Maritime Library is ranked 30th on the entire list. Puerto Rico's LaFactoría is followed by No. 32.
As for the United States, New York continues to lead the way in the cocktail scene, with 11 of the 26 entries in the Tri-State area. Other pillars of New York bars recognized this year include only (No. 18), Double Chicken (19th) and Dante (No. 46).
Other U.S. entries include Mírate, a buzzing Mexican attraction in Los Angeles, ranked 12th; La Trova Café from Miami ranked 13th; Chicago’s Gemini ranked 39th; Denver’s Yacht Club ranked 41st; Washington, DC’s Silver Lyan ranked 48th.
An expert panel of bartenders and bar owners, beverage writers and educators, and “cocktail experts on good travel” selected winners of the 50 best bars in North America. Voters remain anonymous, although organizers said the panelists increased to 300 voters this year, with a 50/50 gender balance to “get a wider snapshot and ensure more different voices are heard during the voting process.”
