Sean Penn says Jennifer Lawrence is "probably the last movie"

Sean Penn appeared on the Louis Theroux Podcast and announced Jennifer Lawrence as "probably the last movie star." Pennsylvania and the same-named podcast host are discussing a range of different celebrities, and the Oscar winners have commented on each.

“I think the movie star maker ran out on time or something like Jennifer Lawrence time,” Payne said of the movie star. "She might be the last movie star."

One of the undisputed film stars in Pennsylvania is Tom Cruise, who returned to the theater this month with "Mission: Impossimes - The Final Estimates." Pennsylvania praised A-lister as "a person who pursues excellence at a very high level."

"The movies that people appreciate more than other movies...but it's a very good actor and a very extraordinary craftsman," Payne said of Cruise. "These movies are not made at these levels without the extraordinary circumstances behind them. He is a common connection behind many. It's not by chance. He does his own stunts. He is probably the best stuntman in the film industry. He is the most experienced person."

Payne later pointed out: "I saw some young actors performing, and I felt I should quit and become an accountant because they were so great," Theroux wondered who the actors might be talking about. Maybe it was Timothée Chalamet?

“I haven’t seen that movie yet,” Pennsylvania mentioned Chalamet’s Oscar nomination in last year’s Complete Unknown. The actor added: "I haven't seen his movie yet."

But Pennsylvania has clearly seen Jennifer Lawrence's film, thus naming her "Probably the Last Movie Star." Lawrence and Cruise will both participate in this year's new film Cannes Film Festival. Cruise brings the latest sequel to "Mission: Impossible," which is called his last outing as Ethan Hunt, while Lawrence is on the psychological drama "Die My Love" with director Lynne Ramsay and co-star Robert Pattinson.

Whether movie stars still exist in Hollywood remains a topic of ongoing talent debate. Some A-level directors like Quentin Tarantino claim that the rise of Marvel contributed to the death of movie stars because actors like Chris Evans are more connected than their superhero characters. Actors like Harrison Ford disagree. Last year, GQ magazine asked about the death of Hollywood movie stars and replied, “Oh, I think it’s rubbish.”

"I don't think the problem is that there are movie stars. There are great actors every day," Ford said at the time. "Whether they become movie stars or not really aren't the point. If movies need stars, they find them. I've never been a fucking movie star. I'm an actor. I tell stories. I'm part of a group of people working together, working together to tell stories. I'm an assistant storyteller. That's me."
