Human Tools, the startup behind the World Human Verification Project co-created by Openai CEO Sam Altman, plans to unveil a mobile device on Wednesday aiming to help people determine the differences between humans and AI agents.
The company debuted the device during its "Last" event in San Francisco and will also announce plans to open a physical storefront where people can access its orb.
World is a Web3 project initiated by Altman and Alex Blania, formerly known as WorldCoin, based on the idea that it will ultimately be impossible to distinguish humans from AI agents on the Internet. To address this, the world hopes to create digital “human proof” tools; these announcements are part of an effort to get millions of people to register.
After scanning the eye with one of its silver metal spheres (or now, its small mini balls), the world will give you a unique identifier on the blockchain to verify that you are human.
The Human Spokesperson Tool told TechCrunch in a briefing that it was a reference to the company's larger Orb device. The Orb Mini looks like a smartphone. Former Apple designer Thomas Meyerhoff helped design the Orb Mini, according to people familiar with the new product.
The main purpose of Orb Mini is to verify more people, not necessarily using the app, making calls or sending text. However, the spokesperson said it is not clear what the device's final function is.
Human Tools also launched the World Network in the United States on Thursday and will open storefronts in Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and San Francisco. The world already has stores in other countries designed to get people in and scan their eyeballs by a company's sphere.
The World Project claims to have signed 26 million people and 12 million people have been verified worldwide. Today, the company has larger operations in Latin America, South America and Asia - but announced Wednesday that it aims to develop the project in the United States
While the company has some knowledge of the details of its Orb Mini, the device appears to be an effort to distribute its verification devices more widely. Despite the changes in the world’s goals over the years, Orb seems to be at the heart of its mission.

Book nowA key question about spinning around the world is whether one day will work with Openai, another Sam Altman business. It is not clear whether the Orb Mini has any AI capabilities or is related to the AI device OpenAI.
