Sailors claim Leody Taveras exempts Rangers from immunity

The Seattle Mariners seized outfielder Leody Taveras's immunity Tuesday.

The Mariners also recovered from the 10-day injury roster to utility player Dylan Moore, optional utility player Samad Taylor, and designated to do the mission as right-hander Luis F. Castillo.

Taveras, 26, started all five games in the Rovers’ 2023 World Series win over Arizona in midfield during the first six years of his professional league career in Texas. However, the Rangers gave Tavelas a complete exemption after Sunday’s game against the Mariners. Taveras hit .241 with one home run, eight RBIs and six stolen bases in 30 games. He is a career .240 batsman since his major league debut in 2020, with 39 home runs, 168 RBIs and 72 stolen bases.

The Mariners will assume that they didn't hit 11 players this season, with an estimated $3.25 million in one year contract. Moore has not participated in the competition due to inflammation of the right hip since April 25. Prior to his IL tenure, Moore hit the ball.286 (which will represent a career-high throughout the season – with six home runs and nine RBIs. He has already started in 2025 at second base, shortstop, third base and right field.

Taylor, 26, has played four games in Seattle since April 30 and has made an 8-1 record. This is his second season in the Mariners organization, where he made his major league debut (31 games) with the Kansas City Royals in 2023. Castillo, 30, started two starts earlier this season and reached 7.71 ERA with just seven walks to five strikeouts. He hasn't been in the major league with the Detroit Tigers before since 2022.

Meanwhile, Evan Carter recalled Evan Carter from Triple-a Round Rock on Tuesday, after he won their only World Series title in 2023, the outfielder suffered most of the last year.

The move comes before the Wanderers open a three-game series in Boston.

Carter started the season with .158 in 14 spring training matches. In 21 round rock games, he hit .221 with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs, 13 walks and 6 stolen bases. Each of his seven extra hits has appeared in the last 14 games, with Carter hitting .288, reaching a .577 hit rate in that game.

The outfielder's first dazzling debut in the second half of 2023 in late 2023 after his injury filling in 2023. He reached base in all 17 games in the Rangers' playoffs and reached .300 with MLB playoff record of 9 doubles and 10 walks.

Carter was limited to 45 games on the back issue in the first all-league season in 2024. He hit .188 with 5 home runs and 15 RBIs.
