This is what happened on Tuesday, April 29:
struggle
- After the Ukrainian military issued a red alarm, the explosion in Kiev, the air defense system responded to Russia's attack on the capital.
- The Ukrainian military said Russia shot down 40 of the 166 drones in multiple attacks on Monday. It also said 74 drones were redirected by electronic warfare and recorded losses in four regions.
- According to the governor of the region, one of the attacks hit a gasoline facility in the Cherkasy region in central Ukraine, leaving consumers without gasoline in certain areas of the city of Cherkasy and part of surrounding villages.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised his foreign intelligence agencies for the "liquidation" of senior Russian military figures, amid comments last week that were regarded as accusing the killing of senior Russian military officer Yarosalv Moskalik.
- The Moscow Ministry of Defense said it destroyed 51 Ukrainian drones in less than three hours late Monday, most of which are in the Kursk region of western Russia.
- A military analyst said Ukraine's decision to invade Kursk was a strategic mistake, allowing Russia to claim other territory within Ukraine. “Essentially, Ukraine values it the most for its territorial deal because it doesn’t value it, and it can’t be kept forever.” Christopher McCallion, an academician of Defense Priority, is based on Defense Priority.
Russia announces unilateral truce
- Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire in the war with Ukraine from May 8 to May 10 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union and its victory in World War II.
- Zelenskyy said the world does not want to wait until May 8 for a truce and called for an "at least 30 days of unconditional ceasefire" to provide a "real diplomatic basis."
- The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump hopes for a permanent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and Putin and Zelenskyy need to participate in negotiated seats to end the war.
- This statement is because the Trump administration failed to fulfill its promises of the Ukrainian war shortly after taking office and failed to make good promises after taking office.
- French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview on Monday that Western allies will "increase pressure on Russia" over the next 10 days, telling us that stance on Moscow will be hardened. Macron said the next 15 days are crucial to implementing a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Diplomacy and politics
- Zelenskyy said a mineral deal with the United States became "stronger and more fair" after negotiations, while Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Kiev was trying to determine any deals as soon as possible.
- The UN Refugee Agency has reduced some plans to support Ukrainians to flee the front lines after the U.S. suspends support for the group.
- The new German government said Berlin will play a bigger role in NATO because of the alliance's doubts about its future. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier told allies at a ceremony at NATO's Brussels headquarters, citing that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was a critical threat.
- The UK has made a broad statement of shared values with the EU, which highlights support for Ukrainian territorial integrity, the Paris climate agreement and free trade, according to a draft document released ahead of next month’s EU summit.
- Amazon has launched a rival service to Elon Musk's Starlink, which launched its first Kuiper Internet satellite projects. The development makes it an alternative to Starlink, which is crucial to the war effort in Kiev, where Musk previously threatened to end access to Ukraine.
