Moscow's defense ministry said on Tuesday that Russian troops intercepted more than 100 Ukrainian drones to open fire in nearly 12 areas of Russia, forcing all four airports near Moscow to temporarily suspend flights.

According to the Russian Civil Aviation Agency, Rosaviatsia and the Ministry of Defense, the other nine regions of Russian airports have also temporarily stopped operations as drones attacked deeper areas with Ukraine and Russia. It was reportedly the second night in the Moscow region.

According to local governor Alexander Khinshtein, two people were injured in the Kursk region and some losses were reported in the Voronitz region.

Russia's report cannot be verified independently.

The drone strike was two days before the unilateral 72-hour ceasefire in more than three years of war announced by President Vladimir Putin, which coincided with the celebration of Moscow marking Victory Day in World War II.

(The day when Moscow defeated Nazi Germany in 1945 was Russia's largest secular holiday, with foreign VIPs gathering in the Russian capital.

Meanwhile, Russian troops opened fire at least 20 Shahed drones in Ukraine's second-five-year city of Kharkiv, which approached the Russian border and injured four people.

He said drones opened fire in Kharkiv, the largest market in Barabashovo, destroying and destroying about 100 market stalls.

Syniehubov said Russian scooter bombs and drones injured seven more civilians elsewhere in the Kharkif region.

Putin held a brief unilateral truce on "humanitarian reasons" from May 8 last week. Ukraine calls for a longer ceasefire.

Russia effectively rejected a proposal by the United States to stop fighting immediately in battle by insisting on far-reaching conditions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine accepted the proposal.

U.S. President Donald Trump said at the White House on Monday that the brief truce “doesn’t sound like much, but it’s…if you know where we start.”

Foreign leaders who confirmed they participated in the Moscow Victory Day celebrations include Chinese President Xi Jinping, who Putin described as "our main guest."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is another top ally Putin proposed in Moscow, but he canceled his trip amid tensions with Pakistan.

Other guests include Slovakia's populist Prime Minister Robert Fico, who openly challenged the EU's policy toward Ukraine. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also accepted the invitation, his first trip to Russia since the invasion, but his attendance rate was uncertain after he became ill.
