Ruben Amorim: "Awkward" coach says Manchester United is losing the feeling of being a big club | Football News

Ruben Amorim insists that Man Utd is "losing the feeling of being a big club" after admitting he is "embarrassing" about his lack of urgency in the Premier League struggles.

United returned to Earth with bumps three days after entering the Europa League final as the struggler West Ham has won his first Premier League victory since 2007.

Thomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen scored 2-0, meaning United have now lost 17 breathtaking top-tier matches this semester, with nine of them playing at home.

Their latest Meek performance angered Amorim, who said “there is a lack of urgency in everything we do” and a worrying mentality in the club ranked No. 16 in the ranking.

"The biggest concern for me is that we feel 'it's okay', 'we can't change our position, so it's OK," the Manchester United boss said.

"This is the biggest problem in our club because we lose the feeling of being a huge club, it's the end of the world losing the game at home. I think that's the biggest worry in our club."

Amorim said it was "the most dangerous feeling you feel in a big club" - it has not had a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Asked about how he felt to see his team in two games on the 16th, the United coach said: "How should the Manchester United manager feel in this position - it's embarrassing and hard to accept.

"I think everyone has to think a lot of things seriously here. Everyone is thinking about the finals. At this moment in our club, the finals are not a problem.

“We have bigger thinking and we have to change a lot of things at the end of the season.”

"Manchester United need to be brave in the summer"

Amorim then doubted his role at Manchester United, reiterating that United “need to change a lot in the summer” and admitting that this could eventually lead to changes in the canoe, with only six league wins since taking over Erik’s ten men in November.

When asked how he changed the attitude of the players, he said: "I don't know, and I don't want to talk about the players. I'm talking about myself, the culture in the club and the culture in the team.

“I have that feeling, we need to change that, we need to be really strong in the summer and be brave because we won’t have seasons like this.

“If we start like this, or if we feel like we are still here, we should give different people.”

Such a poor man United even suggests that UEFA Champions League qualification may be a problem.

"I honestly don't care about the finals," he said. "That's by far the smallest issue in our club. We need to change something deeper than that.

“We show that playing for us and the Champions League is the moon at the end of the season, so we need to know that.

"I don't care about the finals. They (the players) will focus and I don't know what's the best if it's going to be in the Champions League. So, let's consider Chelsea to improve a lot of things."

Manchester United is lucky not to be relegated scrap

Analysis by Lewis Jones of Sky Sports:

Manchester United should be in downgraded scrap

If you take three relegated clubs out of the equation, United won one of their last 17 Premier League games.

They are lucky that the gap between the champion and the top pilots is so big that they would have really flirted with two Premier League relegation battles. If they lose the rest of the league game, they won't even accumulate 40 points this season - usually the standard bearer you need to keep.

Aside from Amad Diallo's loose feet, he ran under the belt under the right, another frustrating afternoon for the locals. West Ham took on a bigger offensive threat, was stronger without the ball and was clinically clinical when completing the game.

Manchester United are now failing to score in 14 Premier League games this season - only Southampton (15), Everton (15) and Leicester (16) have even more blank results.

However, the team is a victory from Champions League football next season. Someone makes it meaningful.
