An impressive performance that swept Missouri at home last weekend, Alabama’s Crimson Trend will now face Vanderbilt Commodores at SEC baseball starting Friday night.
Vanderbilt is one of the SEC's top shows and will sit in the latest 25 rankings this weekend, which we're very close to at Alabama, which is where we built a big road series in the home game of the SEC.
Similar to the past few years, Commodores is once again full of talent, led by more accomplished head coaches in college baseball games over the past decade.
Here is a preview of Commodores before this upcoming weekend trip to Nashville in Alabama.
According to the latest US Sports College Baseball Coach poll, Vanderbilt entered the 15th team this weekend. Commodores currently has a record of 32-13, and at home also scored 23-4, 12-9 in the SEC conference game, and they recently dropped three-two points at Ole Miss last weekend.
Vanderbilt’s head coach is Tim Corbin, the program’s longtime leader, who is currently ranked 23rd year at the helm of Commodores. While in Nashville, Corbin led Vanderbilt to 18 appearances in the NCAA Championship, five appearances in the College World Series, four finals and two national championships in 2014 and 2019.
On the offensive end, Vanderbilt played a weekend batting to form the .269 AVG and was one of the most important steal teams in the SEC with a score of 82 this season. In SEC playback, there are only 22 numbers.
If you have to pick the biggest power overall for Commodores, then you can argue for their pitcher who has had 3.76 ERA as ERA this season while only allowing opponents to allow 0.214 AVG. However, in the SEC competition, Commodores' era was 4.68, with a total of 0.240 AVG for opponents.
Leading the Commodores offense is junior infielder Riley Nelson, who led the team with 0.526 SLG% in 44 games this season, which also led to Vanderbilt. Freshman infielder Brodie Johnston is another notable name for Vanderbilt's offensiveness, leading the Commodores with nine home runs and 42 RBIs while also hitting the .259 AVG.
Vanderbilt's pitcher has multiple names, including starters Cody Bowker, JD Thompson, Austin Nye and Connor Fennell, with the latter two under the ERA. Commodores also owns one of the SEC's top rescuers, right-handed Sawyer Hawks has a 1.34 ERA, saving 6 times in 33.2 innings at a 46:7 K:BB ratio.
