Denver (AP) - The Colorado Rockies are reluctant to mark themselves in the rebuilding era, but after Saturday night, it may be more precise that they collapsed.
Colorado went south to the bottom of the rock from the start, losing 21-0 to San Diego Padres. It was the eighth defeat for the Rockies, and they scored 6-33, the worst 39 games since the Baltimore Orioles in 1988.

Things got so much Saturday night that manager Bud Black used catcher Jacob Stallings in the final two innings - he turned out to be one of the most effective pitchers in their game.
This is the second time Black has won a position player in three days. Infielder Alan Trejo put in an inning in the night limit of Detroit’s doubles loss on Thursday.
"I hate it, I hate that big time," Black said. "This is where we've been with the duo players for the past four days and our starters are kind of. We have a lot of rescuers who have been throwing a lot lately and you have to save some arms."
Cincinnati's loss on Saturday was worse than the biggest difference this season after defeating Baltimore 24-2 on April 20.

Colorado allowed the Grand Slam (258), with more than 134 runs so far this season. The only team that has experienced a 39-game difference since 1900 is 2023 A (-146).
The Tigers and San Diego have led to this gap by scoring double-digits in each game this season and surpassing the Rockies 63-18. Colorado has given up six or more games in the last seven games.
"We've been going through it as a team, and it's not fun," Stallings said. "We've been talking about it all the time, trying to have more fun. Obviously, it's not easy when you're frustrated."
Lack of defense - Colorado has made 10 mistakes in the last five games - when the offense is out, the offense is amplified. Padres starter Stephen Kolek started his second major league with five hits starting in his second major league in a notorious pitching field.

His team left him on the bench for a long time while bending numbers, so he had to go into the tunnel and throw the warm-up court.
“Whenever they lift five to eight innings, it gets a little cold in the canoe, so you have to back up yourself,” he said.
San Diego catcher Elias Diaz, who was beaten more than four Rockies by the Rockies last season, said his heart pays tribute to his former team.
"Oh, yes, 100%," he said. "I've been here for about five years and have a lot of emotions. But it's baseball; we have a job to do."
