Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the first American, choosing Leo

Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the 267th Pope, who was locked in the 267th Pope in Sistine Church on the second day of his meeting, a process that was recently among the Cultural Eraistists, as the Oscar promotes the film, starring the same name, Ralph fiennes, which was nominated by Oscar.

The new pope is named after Leo XIV and will become the first American pope in history.

Leo Xiv, 69, appeared on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica about 70 minutes after he said to the cheering crowd: "Peace." Pope Leo Xiv said in his speech that people need to "become a man" and always peace. He added that Pope Francis' weak voice in his last days still sounded the world.

Prevost, who spent most of his career in Peru and became a cardinal in 2023, is considered a progressive person who hopes to give Francis a continuity of his vision of greater reforms to the Vatican. Francis brought him to Rome in 2023 to take charge of the Vatican office, responsible for selecting which priests should serve as Catholic bishops.

For the Italians, the main reference to the American pope they met before was Lenny Belardo, the protagonist of Paolo Sorrentino's "Young Pope" and played by Jude Law, the American in the TV series, became the first American pope in the United States, named after Asylum Thirteen.

Leo Xiv's former Pope Francis, Jorge Maria Bergoglio, appointed 80% of the cardinals, who voted for one of them as the next pope. Most of the Bergoglio's appointments are younger than the ones they replaced, racially and geographically diverse, and many seem to be much more progressive than him.

However, according to the New York Times, there are less welcome to LGBTQ+ people than Francis. The Times said in his 2012 speech to the Bishop, he lamented that Western news media and popular culture promoted "sympathy for faith and practice that contradicted the gospel."

As an example, he enumerates “same-sex lifestyle” and “alternative families composed of same-sex couples and their adopted children.”

At around 6:15 pm local time in Rome, the Sistine Church emitted white smoke, which meant that it had been elected as the new pope. To win the meeting, the new Pope needs to get 89% of the vote from the 133 Cardinals.

Pope Francis died on April 21 at the age of 88. He was the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church, and during his 12 years as Pope, he tried to position the institution as more inclusive.
