Rio de Janeiro CEO Jakob Stausholm will resign this year and is looking for a successor, FTSE 100 Mining Group said Thursday.

Rio did not give reasons for Stosherm's unexpected exports, which has led the £80 billion miner since 2021.

Rio has driven lithium production strongly under the leadership of Stausholm, a Danish who once worked for Shell, a new growth for the company, including a $6.7 billion acquisition of Arcadium lithium last year.

It has also invested heavily in expanding its iron ore portfolio in Africa and Australia, and has controlled Mongolian bronze operations by acquiring Canadian partners for $3.3 billion in 2022.

He was also responsible for restoring the image of the company, which destroyed Juukan Gorge in 2020, after the company destroyed Juukan Gorge, a sacred Aboriginal location in 2020. Deoxygenate its mining business.

The company's chairman Dominic Barton said Thursday that Stausholm has developed a "convincing growth strategy." Rio said a "rigorous selection process" is underway to identify alternatives to Stausholm. He will continue to take on the role while seeking a successor.

Storshelm said in a staff email to the Financial Times that his successor will be announced ahead of third-quarter production results in mid-October.

The company's internal candidates include Simon Trott, the company's head of iron ore operations, who worked for two decades and its chief business officer Baatar, who joined the company in 2013.

Miners are under pressure from investors to create more value from their global operations, while Storshelm's exit is an export. Rio held an early meeting with Glencore last year, which could significantly increase the size of its business.

The UK-based company is also under pressure from aggressive investors to move its main listing to Australia. At the recent annual general meeting, shareholders rejected a proposal to study the unity more carefully, and Stoshelm opposed the move.
