Recording Academy Election 2025-2027 Board of Directors

Following this year’s annual board meeting, the Recording Academy has elected state officials and 19 leaders for the 2025-2027 board members. Since June 1, Dr. Chelsey Green has been elected as chairman of the board, Evan Bogart has been elected as vice chairman, Jennifer Blakeman has been elected as secretary/treasury and Tammy Hurt has been elected as authorized chairman.

Boldly identify state officials.

"I'm honored to welcome our newly elected board of directors and state officials to the Record Academy, which is composed of enthusiastic, talented leaders who care very much about music and the people who create music," said Harvey Mason Jr, CEO of Record Academy. "Their extensive background in the industry will help us continue to move the Academy forward and drive meaningful change."

According to the announcement, the elected officials of the Record Academy devoted their time to the Academy and played an important role in helping shape the strategic direction of the organization. They work with CEO and Senior Academy Management Company, and they work hard to fulfill the organization’s mission to serve musicians through advocacy, education, direct assistance, and a focus on music excellence.

Green is a billboard-making record artist, entrepreneur and educator. Green was the first black woman to be elected to a chair position and the youngest, marking two historical milestones for Record Academy. Green and Kirk Franklin, Lizzo, Samara

Bogart is a songwriter, producer and publisher, which includes recordings by Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Madonna, Rihanna and others. The son of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, who started his own start in the InterScope Records A&R department before entering artist management and booking, representing behaviors like Maroon 5 and Onerepublic. Currently, he is CEO of Seeker Music and executive music producer and composer of independent feature biopics based on his father Spinning goldfor musical creation movies, Juliet and Romeohe co-wrote and produces all the original music. Bogart also serves as chairman of the Academy's songwriter and composer Wing.

Blakeman is a songwriter, musician and publisher, chief rights and royalties officer for Seeker Music, and has previously held roles in Atlantic Records, One77 Music, Universal Music Publishing, Universal Pictures and Zomba Publishing.

Tammy Hurt is an Emmy-nominated TV producer, a well-known drummer, and the first publicly LGBTQ+ officer, and the third woman to serve as chairman of the Recording Academy’s board of directors. She also serves on the boards of the Latin Records Academy, the Grammy Museum and the music industry. Hurt is the founder of Placement Music, a boutique entertainment company specializing in custom music and ratings for customers including Fox Sports, Paramount Pictures, CBS and NFL.

According to the announcement, Recording Academy members played a key role in shaping the organization’s leadership at the local and national levels. The Academy’s Chapter 12 votes and professional members vote in their respective chapter board elections to elect the governor of its chapter. Of the trustees serving in the National Commission, eight were elected by the votes of the college and 30 professional members, elected by the branch committee. The remaining four seats are composed of state trustees, serving as chair, vice-chairman, secretary/treasurer and honorary chairperson and are elected every two years by the board of directors. The position of state official on the board of directors shall be subject to a term limit of two years and two years.
