Rafael Devers tells the Red Sox that he won't move to first base

Boston - Rafael Devers is the designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox.

And he wasn't interested in another position switch.

Devers said Thursday that he had spoken to reporters for the first time since Triston Casas ruptured and underwent surgery, which was ruled out this season, with Red Sox management contacting him for his idea of being Boston’s first baseman.

The third-time All-Star Devers said he had no best interest after being asked to move from third base to DH in spring training as the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman to third place.

“They came to me and talked about it with me,” Devs said after driving in his home country and in two games in Boston’s 5-0 victory over Texas.

"I know I'm a player, but at the same time, they can't count on every position I play there. In spring training, they talked to me and basically told me to wear gloves. I'm not going to play any other position outside of DH. Now, I don't think they're right for them asking me to play another position."

Devs said he spoke with Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow about Casas' prospects for absent his first game.

Currently, Boston is filling the first base with rows featuring Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro.

"He (Breslow) plays. I think he knows it's not easy to change positions," Devers said through Red Sox interpreter Daveson Perez.

"They put me in this situation. They told me they don't want me to take any other position."

Devers made a suggestion to Breslow, who threw 12 major league seasons and was a key member of the Boston Bullwin when he won the World Series in 2013. Breslow led the Red Sox baseball business unit in his second season.

"Now, they should get the job done essentially and look for another player in the market. I'm not sure why they want me to be in between," Devers said. "Next you know, the people in the outfield are injured, they want me to play in the outfield. I know that I'm the kind of player, and that's where I stand."

When asked about the situation where the Red Sox produced little from the current first baseman group, Devers reiterated that he was full-time DH, and when asked about his ideas.

He also said he was unhappy Boston would consider letting him take over his position as a major league login zero.

"They told me I was a little brainy, but they've asked me to change (position). This time, I don't think I'm that flexible," Devers said. "I don't feel they're loyal to their words. They told me I'm going to play this position, DH. Now they're going back."
