Hopefully, leaders of Ukraine and Russia hold a peace negotiation meeting in Türkiye on Thursday as Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and White House Donald Trump chose to skip the trip.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been under pressure to attend talks in Istanbul, but has said he will only do so when the Russian president is present.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last Sunday that he is willing to engage in "direct negotiations" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskky, and there are no prerequisites in Istanbul this week".

The Russian leader has not confirmed whether he will attend the talks in person, but Putin's name is clearly out of place when the Kremlin confirmed that it would send its delegation to Istanbul on Wednesday evening.

The Kremlin is frustrated with whether the Russian president will attend the talks, and Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov avoids journalists' questions about the topic. When asked Wednesday whether Putin was going to Türkiye, a spokesperson replied that the president held a "working meeting."

The Kremlin said the delegation will be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, including Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin and military official Igor Kostyukov.

After the Kremlin announced the news, senior White House officials told NBC News that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Keith Kellogg and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Istanbul for negotiations, while Trump will not travel to Turkey.

Ukraine's Zelenskyy expressed doubts about the talks this week, commenting on Wednesday that he is still waiting to see who will come from Russia and then I will decide what steps Ukraine should take. So far, the signals in the media are compelling,” he said on the X social media platform.

Trump said on Sunday that Ukraine should agree to "meet Russia immediately", so Kiev is under pressure to participate in the discussion.

"At least they will be able to determine if it's possible to make a deal," Trump wrote on his Truth Social Media Platform.

"If this is not the case, European leaders and the United States will know where everything is and can proceed accordingly!" Trump said he "started doubting that Ukraine would reach an agreement with Putin and then "convene, now! ”

It is not yet certain whether Zelenskyy will still attend the talks, which was reportedly started around Moscow time and now Putin and Trump will not be there.

Zelenskyy's office head Andrii Yermak is expected to participate in the negotiations, but there is no formal confirmation that he is still in the process. Zelenskyy will meet with Turkish President Erdogan in Ankara on Thursday.
