Preview area 35 girls track and field contenders and potential state qualifiers

Hillsdale County – The Hillsdale College Colts Track and Field Team will be the host school for the District 35 Championship. The meeting will be held on Friday afternoon and evening at Hayden Park, with the outdoors beginning early. The scheduled finals are about 5:30-6 pm

There are multiple girls track and field athletes who compete back to back or their first regional championship. Some athletes will be the key to the teams competing for the team’s regional championship. Additionally, many local athletes will seek to compete for time and live results for state qualifying.

Let’s take a look at some of the top regional competitors for local schools, and previewing the state eligibility criteria for several events. To qualify for the state finals, athletes must be ranked first or second in their respective competitions, or beat/equal to the qualifying criteria.

Girls track and field competitors

The relay team may change on final day. Athletes may not compete in all competitions in the rankings.

The 100-meter and 200-meter dash will be contested primarily by reader Abigail Spencer, who ranked fifth in the 100 after the race era this season and second in the 200. Spencer's 27.37 in 200 is within the scope of the qualified standard. The 100 people think her best time this season is 13.46, while the D4 women's track and field final qualifying standard is 13.40. Looking for 100 outside is college sophomore Lucy Cote (13.67), and in the 200 best times are Scaa East Championship and Camden-Frontier sophomore Zailey Conroy (28.25).

Pittsford Senior Ava Mallar ranked third in the 400m times recorded in regional athletes at 1:02.59. This is above the qualifying standard of 1:03.60. Athletes starting with season results also include Lucy Cote, Hillsdale Academy senior Caroline Roberts and Zailey Conroy. Conroy won the match in the SCAA Eastern Finals.

In the 800-meter dashboard, Caroline Roberts has already qualified for an early EQ, with her best time of season 2:19.05. The state qualification standard is 2:31.50. Roberts has been the fastest runner in the region this season. Ava Mallar's 2:27.87 time ranked third in the region this season, surpassing the qualifying criteria. Meanwhile, meeting the criteria (if they play or beat the era) are senior Madison Sallows of the Academy and Allie Miller, a sophomore in the Academy.

SCAA East Winner Caroline Roberts is also an early qualifier for 1,600 and is in the area at 5:20.60. 5:39.0 is the national qualification standard. Ava Mallar was at the forefront of that time, and he ran away earlier this season at 5:39.08.

There are no early qualifiers in the 3200m dash. But Hillsdale Academy teammates Evelyn Meyer (12:22.99) and Ella Walton (12:30.09) have the fastest game time in the region rankings this season. Their time is above the 12:44.0 eligibility standard.

College sophomore Lucy Cote is ranked second in the region in the 100 obstacles (16.06) and 300 obstacles (44.72). In both events, Cote is EQ State Qualifiers. In each incident, she ranks in the top five in the state. The regular national eligibility criteria for each activity are 17.60 and 51.40. Ava Mallar (48.15) and Madison Sallows (50.51) are both in the qualifying time of 300 obstacles. Maral will be eligible for states earlier this season at 17.19 of 100 obstacles. The best 100 times for Sallows so far is 17.63.

Relay competitors

Hillsdale Academy's 4x100 relay team Madison Sallows, Lucy Cote, Cate Gaetano and Ella O'Grady are the SCAA Eastern Conference champions. Their 54.01 time is second in the region, three seconds behind Lenawee Christian's fastest team. The state qualification standard is 54.60. The next closest local team is the readings from Caylee Whinnie, Lindzey Penza, Emma Gerth and Abigail Spencer (55.04).

The 4x200 pass standard is 1:55.20. The academy teams of Cotter, Salov, O'Grady and Roberts were the second best area with a score of 1:52.26. The next best local team is the readings from Caylee Whinnie, Aleana Monahan, Emma Gerth and Abigail Spencer. If the team can match their 1:55.18 time or beat the game on Friday, they will be the state qualifiers.

The 4x400 relay team of Cote, Salos, Roberts and Georgia Warren is the fastest on paper in the region, with a time of 4:14.54, a few seconds ahead of the second second in the standings. The standard time for passing is 4:29.0. The Colts are already eligible for EQ time. Outside this standard qualifying match this season is Pittsford with Anna Newell, Brill Clark, Anna Camilla Sallasal and Ava Maral (4:30.82).

The Sallows 4x800 relay team from Salows, Anne Gray, Roberts and Ella Walton (10:08.33) is the fastest in the region to reach the finals. The time captured on April 25 made them an early qualifier (10:15.0 equation). The regular national qualification standard is 10:50.0.

The state eligibility criteria for shot put is 32 feet 1 inch. Reading Senior Abby Affholter (34ft, 1in) is the result of a finalist in the season. The state eligibility criteria in discus are 97 feet, 10 inches. Affholter leads all regional athletes this season with a record of 105 feet (6 inches).

The state eligibility criteria for high jumps are 4 feet, 10 inches. Earlier this year, several local athletes finished the game near this score. Pittsford Senior Riley McCumber ranked second in the region. Behind her is college freshman Amelia Heath, who jumped 4-foot-10 inches high. Camden-Frontier Senior Averil Miller won the SCAA East with a 4-foot-and-9-inch jump.

The state eligibility criteria for pole vaults are 8 feet (9 feet EQ). Pittsford's senior Chloe Fowler has a 10-foot, 1-inch clearance to win the SCAA East and become an early qualifier. She is the top athlete in the region rankings that reached the finals. College junior Anne Gray encountered the 9-foot EQ qualifier at the SCAA East conference. They are 1-2 in the current ranking.
