Daryl Morey, president of Daryl Morey, needs to take action when the Philadelphia 76ers enter the offseason. The 76ers took action during the 2024-25 season, aiming to keep them in the best position to retain some of the key players they think will help them in the future.
Each Spotac, 76ers will have 11 free agents entering the offseason. Not everyone will be back in the 76ers uniform, and it's time to predict what the team will do with each player. Philadelphia will do its best to retain Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele, but the Sixers will struggle to achieve that when considering the CBA restrictions.
It's time to predict who stays and who joins the Free agency:
Oubre has the option of 2025-26 for about $8.1 million, which is a reliable price for those with production and versatility. He will almost certainly come back when considering this type of money and how important he is to this group. The 76ers themselves even expect him to return, so this will be relatively easy to predict.
prophecy: Stay behind
Another guy with a player option, worth $5 million, is expected to return. The 2-time All-Star slowed down a year with a sprained left toe, but if he can have a healthy season and get consistent time, he's expected to give the Sixers some help in the cup.
prophecy: Stay behind
Like Oubre and Drummond, the Sixers also want Gordon to return with a $3.4 million player option. Another player slowed down due to injury as he had to undergo surgery on his right wrist and Gordon would hope to give the Sixers an elite three-point shot in the stretch before the wrist surgery. When he is healthy, Gordon can provide a lot of production to 76ers.
prophecy: Stay behind
This is where things are really tricky. Expecting Oubre, Drummond and Gordon to all choose to participate in their player selection, as well as paying a third overall pick in the draft, makes the huge commitment to Grimes making it hard to commit to Grimes, who performed well after being acquired after the deadline. The 76ers will resist taxes and have a slim chance of bringing Grimes back when it makes Yabusele work.
That being said, Morey and the 76ers like him and they know what he can bring. One must believe that the salary dump will take place shortly before the free agent period on June 30 to create the cap space needed to bring back the Grimes. It also helps him to be a restricted free agent, which gives the Sixers the option to match any deal he signed.
prophecy: Stay behind
The 76 currently have intermediate non-tax exceptions ($14.1 million) and biennial exceptions ($5.1 million). One must believe that Yabusele will score 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in his $2.1 million in the 2024-25 season, while playing multiple positions and roles, while playing a significant increase. If the 76ers give him a big raise, then people have to doubt how many exceptions they will leave. He is an unrestricted free agent, which doesn't help.
Again, Morey and the 76ers like him. Like the Grimes, they are a priority for Philadelphia to bring back free agents. Morey and Co.
prophecy: Stay behind
Lowry said he wanted to return to Philadelphia. But future Hall of Fame members are 39 years old, while the Sixers want to be young. One must believe that he will not come back when he enters the next or even final stage of his next career. If he came back by chance, it would be similar to the role he played this year, when he was a mentor to the young man.
prophecy: go
The 76ers have little chance to exercise their $2.5 million team option on Edwards. He proved himself an undrafted rookie in 2024-25 and did a lot of positive things for this group at both ends of the floor. As free agents get closer, the Sixers will certainly hope to bring him back. Even if it is indeed rejected, it is likely to be a renegotiation to make him a cheaper deal.
prophecy: Stay behind
Walker may be the victim of the 76ers' third pick in the draft. While he expressed his desire to stay in Philadelphia, the reader might be the weird ones, considering that the 76ers would bring one of Ace Bailey or Vj Edgecombe (or other options), plus the possibility that the Grimes would be restored to Grimes while the 76ers would be healthier, he would likely stand out.
prophecy: go
Butler had some great time after the deadline. He is a brain player who can effectively attack and shows that he can knock down a Open 3 when the defense offers opportunities. His team's choice is $1.2 million, making him a deep film without hurting this group. He is the coach that coach Nick Hurse can rely on.
prophecy: Stay behind
This is a nurse’s favorite, and it may be the end of the Dodin era in Philadelphia. Since he's now completing his fourth season in the league, he can't sign any two-way deals anymore, so he may have to find opportunities elsewhere.
prophecy: go
Hood-Schifino signed a two-way deal, all the injuries the Sixers had to fight, giving the Sixers a great performance. He showed that he could shoot a little while it was opened, and he could do some offense as a ball surgeon. Having said that, the chances of him coming back are very small.
prophecy: go
