Pornhub owners to suspend scene in France to protest new verification laws | France

French visitors visited adult websites Pornhub, Youporn and Redtube will receive news on Wednesday condemning the country's age verification requirements, the company said Tuesday.

A spokesman said the parent company Aylo's reaction to French law requires adult websites to take additional measures to verify that their users who are over 18 years of age or older will cease operations in France.

"I can confirm that Aylo made a difficult decision to suspend France's access to alternative platforms (Pornhub, Youporn, redtube) in France. We will use our platform to address the French public directly to the French public," a Pornhub spokesman said Tuesday.

By displaying information, rather than Pornhub’s huge adult content library, Aylo “comes directly with the French to tell them how dangerous it is, how dangerous it is, how potential privacy violations and the ineffectiveness of French law,” Solomon Friedman, owner of Aylo and partner of moral capital, told reporters on a video call Tuesday.

France has gradually introduced requirements for all adult websites this year, requiring users to confirm their age and provide detailed information such as credit card or ID documents.

To protect privacy, operators must provide a third-party "double-blind" option that will allow the platform itself to see the user's identification information.

But Aylo says it's an ineffective mechanism that puts people's data at risk of bad actors, hackers or leaks.

They say countries should target developers of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Apple's iOS or Google's Android, rather than pornographic platforms.

"Aylo is the concept of age verification," executive Alex Kekesi told reporters during a video call.

But asking a single platform to confirm the age of the visitor "poses a very serious risk to your privacy rights..." she added.

"Google, Apple, and Microsoft all have built-in features of their operating systems that can verify the age of users at the operating system or device level," said Friedman of ECP.

He believes their ability to “provide age signals to any site or application… can actually provide solutions” to control access to adult content without the need for users to share sensitive data with multiple sites.

"I know these three entities are big and powerful, but that's not an excuse for France to do what they do."

Aylo's message to potential porn viewers will be a free image.

Culture Minister Aurore Berge wrote on X that it would be “much better” if Pornhub and other Aylo sites cut access to French users rather than “compliant with our legal framework.”

She added: “The violence, tainted and humiliating content that French minors can use will be reduced.”

"If Aylor would rather leave France than apply for our law, they are free to do so," French Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology Clara Chapaz wrote on X.

ARCOM said that even if it should be legally blocked, 2.3 million minors visit porn sites every month.

Adult content platforms have come under fire elsewhere in the EU. EU regulators said last month that several sites, including Pornhub, failed to comply with rules for protecting children, and would investigate Pornhub, including Pornhub.
