Vatican City - The inauguration of Pope Leo Xiv in St. Peter's Square and Basilica on Sunday morning was a symbolic ceremony connected to the special missions of Peter, the apostle of Jesus and his as head of the Catholic Church.

No new roles are given - the Pope is already the head of the Vatican and the head of faith, accounting for about 1.4 billion Catholics around the world, and thousands are expected to gather in the square with government representatives.

However, Leo will gain his tenet, “pallium” and two key signs of the fisherman, which marks his role as Peter’s successor.

In most places, it is a celebration of the Eucharist, just like any Sunday Mass held in Catholic Churches around the world.

For example, the gospel passage will focus on Jesus’ responsibility as a church shepherd – the first public statement of his election day mentioned Leo.

It will be announced first in Latin and then in Greek. Pastor Giuseppe Midili, a professor and consultant at the Vatican Liturgy Office, said that as the main language of the new churches 2,000 years ago, today they mean "the church attempts to reach everyone" and become universal.
