The tragic fall of Kavan Markwood from Pittsburgh’s top Clement walls on PNC Park is asking questions.
Despite being 20 and a minor, people sitting nearby said Markwood was drinking during the game, although the Pirates said Markwood showed no sign of intoxication in the fall.
The Pirates expressed deep concern and grief about the fall, which made Mark Wood prone to appear on the right-field warning track. He was still in critical condition Friday. But they told KDKA that he never bought alcohol at PNC Park, and all bans were observed in this case.
According to a spokesman, Markwood’s credit card receipts showed another man legally purchased drinks four times, buying two drinks at a time: four beers and three beers.
The club believes Mark Wood consumed two beers during the game.
In an interview with fans of this section, Pirates said they had already had a different situation with Mark Wood before the fall. One fan said Markwood seemed intoxicated, and others said he talked naturally and showed no fanatical behavior. A fan told the club that Mark Wood stood up, was excited about the game and pushed it down on the wall.
Pirates said they did not think Mark Wood showed any intoxicating behavior when entering the park. The club banned two fans from entering Tuesday night due to drunkenness, but Mark Wood was not one of them.
The Pittsburgh Police Department continues to investigate. But while the pirates remained worried about the condition of the fan, they said their plan was followed, and Mark Wood showed no sign of intoxication in the fall.
Aramark provided KDKA-TV with the following statement: “We are committed to creating a fan experience that is both pleasant and safe, and our long-standing alcohol compliance program is crucial to this commitment. Our ideas are still relevant to fans and his friends and family.”
