Major League Baseball made its first shot this week this season, when the Pittsburgh Buccaneers beat Derek Shelton to a 12-26 start.

This has been a tough thing for the Buccaneers since a brief playoffs a decade ago. But they failed to meet expectations thanks to young talents like Paul Skenes, O'Neil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, Ke'Bryan Hayes.

Skynis admitted he was "not shocked" by the move.

"We are 12-26 years old. Someone is responsible," he told reporters on Friday. "Unfortunately, it's him now."

But Skynis said management changes won't be done much, because it ultimately depends on the players.

He added: "The way it has evolved. I don't know if it solves the root of the problem. We just need to play a better role."

"Derek worked very hard and sacrificed a lot of things over five years. His family became an important part of the Pirates' family and we will miss it," said in a statement. "He is an incredibly smart, curious and motivated baseball leader. I believe he was the right person for the job when he was hired. I also believe that there is a need to make a change now. I hope Derek and his family will go well in the next chapter."

"Derek is a good guy, doing a lot for the Pirates and Pittsburgh, but now it's time to change," said Bob Nutting, chairman of the Pirates. "The first quarter of the season was frustrating and painful for all of us. We have to do better. I know. Ben knows that. Our coaches know that. Our players know that.

"There is still a lot of baseball to play. We need to act with a sense of urgency and take the necessary steps to get back on track as a team and organization."
