PGA champion Scottie Scheffler says his driver also fails to pass the check

Charlotte, N.C. (AP) - Scottie Scheffler added surprising wrinkles after winning the game due to all the attention Rory McIlroy failed to pass the check at the PGA Championship.

His driver also failed to perform the test.

It is added to a context that was seriously missing from the original report. The US PGA said it is often randomly asked to test the driver's head randomly to ensure that the continuous lens does not make the face too thin to exceed the limits of the trampoline effect.

The PGA of the United States said that one-third of the 156ers were tested by the driver. These included the final winner Scheffler, who was not surprised by the test results.

"My driver really disappointed me this week. We feel like it's coming because I've been using the driver for over a year. I'm lucky to last that long," Scheffler said.

McIlroy never talked to the media throughout the week of the PGA Championship.

Random tests are usually performed on PGA Tour and Grand Slam. Xander Schauffele said earlier this year he asked an old driver to re-act as he asked for a test.

Schauffele thinks it shouldn't be random. “Test everyone,” he said.

The US PGA said the test was to protect players who might not know that the driver's face began to thin. This is not a matter of intention.

Scheffler supports Schauffele's mindset.

"I think if we were going to test drivers, we needed to be more robust in the way they were tested," Scheffler said. "That was the conversation I had with a rule officer. If that was something we were going to take seriously, I feel like we were almost halfway through now."

Schaeffler said it was "no big deal" to go to a new driver because he had to do it before, and he had been working with manufacturers at CJ Cup Byron Nelson two weeks ago because they knew it would exceed the limit.

Scheffler lost a five-goal lead in the first nine games as so many shots were lost on the left. Is that the product of the new driver?

"No, I think that's my fault," he said with a smile.

Poston delivery

JT Poston was called "Postman" by players and caddies on the PGA Tour, and he performed best in a major in the PGA Championship.

Poston is a favorite of Quail Hollow, who grew up in Hickory North Carolina and played in West Carolina.

Poston lost three shots in five holes after trailing four shots. Then he stretched out three birds with four holes, still in the picture - before Scheffler finally drove away.

Poston Bogey made a hole in the last two holes, freeing him from the potential runner-up. He ended with a score of 73 and tied up fifth.

“The biggest thing is that this week is a learning curve for me,” he said. “This is the first time I’ve really taken this position in a Grand Slam and I feel like I’m on the ground overall.”

He will make two more attempts at the U.S. Open and the British Open. Poston's last bogey gave him a guarantee in the Masters next year as he made the top four. This is the least problem he has worried about after a good fight at PGA.

“The most important thing is that I just proved myself that I can win one of them, which is exciting,” he said.

Public exemption from the United States

Davis Riley's runner-up finish is more important than what will bring him into the Masters next year. He can avoid us from opening up qualifying.

The world's top 60 were exempt from open qualifying at the U.S. Open, with four players making a big move in Sunday's PGA Championship.

Jhonattan Vegas ranked 70th and his tie fifth, lifting him to No. 49. Vegas also made it to the British Open, which is the top 50 of this week.

Si Woo Kim ranked eighth in tie.

Then there is Joe Highsmith. He won the Cognitive Classics in Florida, competed in the Masters and PGA Championship. He then played bogey-free in the last 12 holes, leading 71 to finish eighth. That moved him from No. 69 to No. 60.

The best in Neman

Joaquin Niemann has been playing his best golf ball in the Liv Golf League, winning three wins this year in Saudi-funded leagues.

He went out early, shot 68, and took him all the way into the tie to finish eighth as the players started to fade away later in the day under tougher, windy conditions.

This is the first top ten in Neiman's major.

He received a sponsor waiver for the PGA Championship this year. He doesn't need one next year. The top 15 won the spot on the scene.
