Pep Guardiola: Manchester City boss tells the club that he wants a smaller team or he will stay too big | Football News

Pep Guardiola claims he will quit the resignation of the Manchester City boss if there is too big next season because he can't stand a large number of fitness players.

Manchester City will enter the summer, hoping to rebuild an aging team, with several senior player candidates following Kevin de Bruyne out in the Belgian's 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday.

However, Abdukodir Khusanov, Savinho, James McAtee, Claudio Echeverri and Rico Lewis all missed

It seems difficult to achieve the right digital balance after an injury hit the city in a season, but Guardiola (who always prefers to use smaller groups) says keeping work tight remains his top priority.

Manchester City's January signature:

  • Claudio Echeverri - River Plate, £12.5 million (Trade agreed in January 2024)
  • Abdukodir Khusanov - Lens, £33.5m
  • Vitor Reis- Palmeiras, £29.6m
  • Omar Marmoush - Eintracht Frankfurt, £59m
  • Nico Gonzalez - Porto, £50m

"I said to the club, I don't want that (a bigger team)," Guardiola said. "I don't want to leave five or six players in the refrigerator. I don't want that. I'll quit. Be a shorter team and I'll stay."

“It is impossible for my soul to (tell) that the players on the forum can’t play.

"Now happens to add players right away. Maybe three to four months we can't pick 11 players, we don't have defenders, it's so difficult. After that, people are back, but it's not possible that next season.

"As a manager, I can't train 24 players and every time I choose, I have to have four, five, six, because they can't play, so stay in Manchester. That won't happen. It won't happen. It won't happen. I said to the club, I don't want that."

Highlights of Premier League between Manchester City and Bournemouth

Despite the injury issues this season - most notably Rodri's long absence, who made his debut since September and was a second-half substitute on Tuesday night, Guardiola said he would rather make up for those numbers with the academy players.

His assertion means that the city will have to trim the numbers before introducing any new faces in the next transfer window.

"If I get hurt, unfortunately we have some academy players and we do it," he said.

“(We) can’t maintain the emotions of the club, the soul of the team, and () to create another connection with each other, and we lost a little this season.”

Manchester City need to win Tuesday to keep their hopes in the Champions League, and Sunday's draw at Fulham should be enough to ensure.

Omar Marmoush opened the score with a great strike and Bernardo Silva doubled the lead before the break, despite De Bruyne missing a public goal.

Nico Gonzalez finished third at Nico Gonzalez before Daniel Jebbison stopped the comfort target after Manchester City's Mateo Kovacic and Bournemouth's Lewis Cook quickly saw the red.

PEP: Grelish decides to appear at the end of the season

Guardiola The future of the season ends.

The pecking order at the Etihad Stadium has dropped since the 2023 treble championship sport, signed for £100 million four years ago.

The 29-year-old, who has only seven Premier League games this semester, beat Crystal Palace in Saturday's FA Cup final and has not been called from the bench.

He could push this speculation this summer, but Guardiola insists that it has not been confirmed yet, and that his successor Hugo Viana and the player's representatives will be discussed between outgoing football Txiki Begiristain.

Jack Grealish

Guardiola said: "We didn't speak, I didn't speak to him. People don't believe me, but these things belong to the agents, the clubs and Txiki, and in this case Hugo belongs to Hugo. Both will decide.

"What's going to happen, but he has to come back and start the game again."

Guardiola accepted Grealish, who had two years left to contract and was not satisfied with his lack of action.

He said: "It's not (only) Jack. I don't have a player in my locker room and I think all the locker rooms in the world are happy (when they don't play).

“When a team wins and wins, they have to figure out how it all happens – but they aren’t happy.

"They play here and when they don't play, they're not satisfied. It's the normal position in all clubs."
