Pep Guardiola: Champions League’s huge football news for the short-term future of human cities

Pep Guardiola said the last two Premier League games in Man City were "huge" but if they weren't eligible for the Champions League, they shouldn't have it.

After defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 in the FA Cup final, Manchester City's campaign will end without silverware as their focus returns to gaining fate in the European Fair Championships, which remains in the hands.

Win in the final match of the Premier League season, home win at Bournemouth on Tuesday Sky movement, Next weekend at Fulham will be enough to get a seat in the top five, but they are currently not in the European Championship qualifying round.

"We need four points to play in the Champions League, which is enough, and everyone has to be aware of that," Guardiola said.

"It's important to get other teams besides other teams, except Newcastle won the Calabar Cup, Liverpool won the Premier League, Manchester City won the Community Shield. Other teams didn't win the trophy.

Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 pm Kick off at 8:00 pm

"Chelsea can win the championship (conference league), while Manchester United and Tottenham can win the Europa League; other teams want to qualify for the Champions League. This is important for every club.

“We have to come back, we have to recover quickly. Yes, it’s better to win the FA Cup with Bournemouth because the victory helps win, but now we have to prove our strength.

“From my point of view, we have two very important games in the short-term future of this club.”

"I think we have to meet the criteria"

Manchester City owner Pep Guardiola talks about his confrontation with Dean Henderson after the FA Cup final and aims at Crystal Palace's wasted time, but admits that it's not the reason his team loses the game

The victory over Bournemouth would put the city in third place on the table, entering the final match of Craven Cabin.

Failure will put them in sixth place, with only one point separating the team from third to seventh to top five.

Manchester City began bidding for the fifth consecutive Premier League title this season. It seems incredible that they will end this season scrambling for the Champions League position.

"I've been in the Champions League for the past 13, 14, 15 years," Guardiola added. "If we're not, then we shouldn't get it, we're going to be in the Europa League. That's it.

"I think we're going to be eligible. I control my mind, I think. We need two wins or four points.

“The first step is to be third in the Premier League. That’s my goal.

“We will do everything we can to do.”

Will DeBruen start in the final Etihad match?

Meanwhile, Guardiola does not guarantee Kevin de Bruyne will start his last home game at Manchester City.

De Bruyne, who left the club when it expired this summer, will play for the last time at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday in a city shirt against Bournemouth.

Guardiola said: "What Kevin wants is that we won the Champions League game that qualifies for next season. That's what Kevin wants.

“I will decide on the best thing so we have the best chance to win the game against Bournemouth.”

Regardless of the time of De Bruyne's game, the club plans to honor the greatest players of the Premier League era after the game.

De Bruyne, who has been successful in the city’s glorious decade, includes six league champions and Champions Leagues, will receive honorary defenders from teammates and staff behind the scenes, before performing a light show with fireworks technology.

Kevin de Bruyne said he was talking to Premier League clubs as he answered his future questions after losing to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final

Former city player Colin Bell's wife and sons Marie and Jon Bell will also be present to the 33-year-old.

With De Bruyne not expected to participate in the club's World Cup, the match at Fulham next Sunday will be his last match at the club.

Guardiola now needs to get his side out of his situation from Saturday's FA Cup final.

He said: “We played a really good final but not enough to win the game, and now we have the last two games.

"We need to get four points in the Champions League next year, which is enough (motivation). Everyone has to be aware of that."

Guardiola said he hadn't seen Saturday's game.

"I didn't see the game. My focus is Bournemouth. Maybe I'll review certain images tonight, but last night and this morning I focused on Bournemouth."

Guardiola insists that despite Omar Marmoush's disappearance at Wembley, he has not appointed a free thrower as top champion Erling Haaland unexpectedly snatched the opportunity.

"I didn't talk to them. We trained this afternoon. It's obvious - the receiver has to score."

Ben Ransom of Sky Sports News:

“Guardiola has said a lot of weeks about the importance of these games at the end of the season. He has called them a series of cup finals, so he lost the cup final, which was the cup they could have mastered the silverware, and that would have made this group beat the wind.

“In their last match in the Premier League, they were in Southampton’s 0-0 draw and everyone wanted them to win.

“It’s really hard to add some danger to this game right now. When you think about what you’re taking from the players over the weekend, it’s not only confidence, but it’s over 100 minutes on the Great Wembley Stadium in London’s hot weather.

“There is a lot of emotional reason to play Kevin de Bruyne in the FA Cup final and now in the final of Etihad.

"It was an amazing time to succeed for him, but he played 100 minutes on the weekend. He has been used cautiously in recent seasons due to his injury issues. Starting two games in four days seems like a big inquiry, even if the club and fans pay tribute to him.

“Either way, start, stand out from the bench, Guardiola made it clear that De Bruen would want something that best suits human cities.”

“The most difficult result we need is VS Man City”

Bournemouth faces an uphill battle to seal European football. They are currently ranked 11th and are competing for eighth points against Fulham, Brentford and Brighton, which is enough for the UEFA Conference League position.

Boss Andoni Iraola added: "We need me not to know how many results there are, but from all of these results, I think the hardest thing is we (Tuesday) because we are playing for City, which we play in the Champions League.

"So, this is not the situation we want, but it's the scenario we have right now. Indeed, after the FA Cup finals of (Crystal Palace beat the city to win the city), the chances of getting Europe are limited."
