Paul Pogba is still in Europe despite DC United negotiations - source

Sources told ESPN that free agent midfielder Paul Pogba will take the time to decide that he will play football next and continue to focus on joining a team in Europe.

Pogba, 32, has a connection with MLS Side DC United, which owns his discovery rights, and is currently the only MLS team able to negotiate with him. Sources added that while the negotiations were not at the advanced stage, Pogba was aware of the situation between DC United general manager Ally Mackay and the entourage of the former Manchester United star.

The Washington Post first reported that DC United has the right to discover Pogba.

Pogba has not had a club since Juventus terminated its contract last November.

Although DC United has an advantage over other MLS teams, they are just a few of them recently linked to Pogba. If another MLS team is hunting Pogba, it will have to pay a fee to DC to obtain its discovery rights.

Sources told ESPN that he is interested in the future relocation to MLS, with his friends and former teammates (such as Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris playing for LAFC), but his priorities remain the return of European football.

Sources said the 2018 World Cup champion believes he can still play at the Champions League level, and representing one of Europe's top clubs will give him the best chance to be recalled to Didier Deschamps' French team, in time to play in the 2026 World Cup matches in the United States, Canada, Canada, Canada and Mexico.

He will consider all offers from the Europa League and MLS including DC United, who are currently ranked 13th in the Eastern Conference with only two wins in the first 10 games of the season under head coach Troy Lesesne.

Pogba tested positive for DHEA while playing at Juventus in August 2023 and was initially banned from use for four years.

ESPN reported in March that Parisians attracted a lot of interest in January and February, some more specific than others. Marseille and Marseille have taken him strongly, and some Spanish clubs are watching him. He also rejected the approach of the Brazilian and Saudi Arabian teams.

He also spoke with David Beckham, co-owner of Miami International Club, a city in which Pogba has lived with his family since November, according to sources. Sources added that he also spoke with other MLS teams before DC United pursued their interests.

His last game was on September 3, 2023, when he beat Empoli 2-0 for 29 minutes in Juventus. His last time played for a full 90 minutes was when Manchester United beat Tottenham 3-2.

He has been training with personal trainers for several months and has participated in a pick-up and drop-off competition in Miami.
