Parma 0-0 Napoli (May 18, 2025) Game Analysis

Napoli hopes to have to put on the ice after Parma draws 0-0 after a Serie A title on Sunday, making the championship game decide on the final day of next weekend's season.

With Inter Milan, who was second-placed, also defeating Lazio 2-2 in the same simultaneous kick-off, Napoli will enter the final against Cagliari with one point.

If Inter loses to Lazio, Napoli’s victory on Sunday will give them a championship.

Naples' best chance to break the deadlock was after half an hour when André-Frank Zambo Anguissa's volley shot hit the post.

Matteo Politano almost took Naples ahead in the second half as his cross swept the top of the bar, and Scott McTominay's free kick was saved brilliantly by Parma Keeper Zion Suzuki.

News broke Lazio's balance against the international front in the 90th minute, allowing Naples to regain control of the championship battle.

But the mood was boiling as Naples desperately pushed the winning goal, and their manager Antonio Conte and his Parma Cristian Cristian Chivu both showed red cards after a heated exchange on the contact line.

Conte said: "I am used to British football today and I'm annoyed by the obstacles in Palma, there's no such stop cramps, injuries, pretending to be injured, so it's annoyed, that's why I'm sent away."

"It annoyed me because you're making decisive games all year round. I believe in the staff and these guys, and most importantly, I believe in the crowd at Maradona Stadium."

The most exciting moment goes deeper into downtime. David Neres was knocked down by Parma's Mathias Fjortoft Lovik and the referee initially sentenced to a fine. However, after a long period of var review, the decision was overturned.

After the game, Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret admitted that sentiment was high in the last few minutes as the situation changed from one event to another.

"The last few minutes were roller coasters, I saw the sad face, and luckily Lazio equally, we tried to lead until the end," he told reporters.

“We know how to endure and fight, we have to remember where we start, and that should fill us with pride.”

Naples will host Cagliari, while Inter Milan will decide on the final title next Sunday. If both teams end up with the same score, the championship will be decided by the playoffs.

"Like the International Front, there is a tough opponent who has performed well in the season, but we have to praise ourselves, we have always been good at not giving up. Now, we have to face the last game and we will be ready."
