Pakistan has postponed its Twenty20 alliance indefinitely, canceling UAE's relocation plans as tensions escalate with India.
The Pakistan Cricket Council postponed the Pakistan Premier League T20 cricket match after military tensions between India and Pakistan increased.
PCB said it acted on the advice of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
"Cricket is a unified force and a source of joy, but must be treated a little," the PCB said in a statement Friday night.
PCB earlier confirmed it would relocate the remaining eight PSL games to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, citing growing concerns among overseas players and that its safety needs to be prioritized.
However, the latest announcement says PSL is being delayed and there is no indication whether this year's version will be restored.
The cities of Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore are planning to host the rest of the PSL games.
On Thursday, an Indian drone landed in the complex within the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium hours before the start of the PSL game, with several cricketers from New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, South Africa and the United Kingdom participating in the match.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is also the home minister of the Pakistani government, who held a meeting with foreign cricketers and six franchise owners of PSL before initially saying the match had moved to Dubai.
England cricketers Sam Billings, New Zealand's Colin Munro, South Africa's Rilee Rossouw and West Indies' Jason Holder are among the 43 foreign cricketers involved in the PSL.
"We have a sincere respect for the psychological well-being of participating players and the emotions of foreign players, and we respect the concerns of families who want to see them return home," the PCB statement said.
PSL started in 2016 in the UAE in 10th edition. The UAE hosted the first two versions of the PSL, in addition to the finals in 2017, and some competitions during the Covid-19-19 pandemic in 2021.
Munro's Islamabad United are the defending champions of the six team leagues. Rossouw's Quetta Gladiators are leading the score and are already eligible for the playoff stage, while Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultan was eliminated after losing eight of his nine league games.
The other three teams are Peshawar Zalmi, captained by Babar Azam. Karachi Kings, made the standout by Australian David Warner and Lahore Qalandars.
The Indian Cricket Council said on Friday that India's Premier League has been suspended for a week amid current tensions in the region.
