Last Thursday, Matthew Golden became a member of the Packers when he stepped out of the Green Room at the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay - a hometown fans made him hear they were excited about it.
Surreal moments still feel like a dream of gold.
"Just the way it happened, I think there's a reason God did it. It's something to stay in touch with me forever," he said, telling Fox News Digital, while also discussing how long he worked with Tide on the draft.

Golden's answers to his draft moments show that it all speaks to the important role of faith in his life.
A native of Houston, Texas said he "growed up in a church house" where he learned the drums of six years old.

This strong belief, along with a strong family connection, has helped push gold to the heights of today’s NFL. And he knew that without those two foundations in his life, he would not be in this position.
"Sometimes adversity does hit me, God is the one around me," Gordon explained. "Sometimes people doubt me, sometimes I do want to give up. But when I get back to God, he definitely helped me get here."

One of the biggest adversities was in 2023, when the Golden was injured while playing for the Houston Cougars. After nine solid nine games, he has to miss the rest of the season.
"That was the first time football was taken away from me," Golden said of the injury. "So I didn't know how to deal with it, I was frustrated. But then, my relationship with God became stronger and I began to understand that there was a reason."
Golden will enter the transfer portal in December of that year, where he landed with Longhorns and stayed not far from Texas.
Golden released his best college season in Texas in a year, playing 58 receptions for 987 yards in 16 games and nine touchdowns to help the team make the college football playoffs.
Later, he will play a 4.29 40-yard dash in the NFL scout combo to consolidate his position and become one of the best receivers in the class this year, and the Packers seized the opportunity to create franchise history.

The Packers have chosen a receiver in the first round of the NFL draft for the first time since 2002, and Golden is ready for the next chapter of his football career.
