Green Bay Packers' sight and voice organized team activities
Green Bay Packers made their way to the driving range during an organized team event.
Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers continue their offseason planning through organized team activities, 10-day meetings, individual drills and organized practices.
While this is not a typical boot camp and the drill is contactless, it sets the stage for expectations during the camp.
At a meeting open to the media on May 28, offensive winger Elgton Jenkins, cornerback Jaire Alexander, offensive winger John Williams, kicker Brandon McManus and cornerback Tyron Herring did not find it in practice. Both Jenkins and Alexander are reportedly trying to re-sign the contract.
The Packers brought back a lot of experience from last year’s playoff team, but Packers coach Matt Lafleur said every year they start from the beginning.
"Anything you never want to be a coach, you're almost starting from scratch in terms of the details of our practice," he said. "I like these guys today because yesterday wasn't very good. It wasn't very clean. I think today's productivity is much higher."
In this case, it is difficult to fully evaluate a player because it is not full speed in practice, but Lafleur said he looked at: "Alignment, task, communication that needs to be done, and when we slowly get down during those jogging periods, theoretically, you should be doing nothing. In the proper photography, good footwork and basic levels and basic levels can be used." ”
Here are some other gains from LaFleur media availability:
Former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs joined the Packers in March at the free agent dealership. Hobbs has experience playing in corners and outside nickel, and during practice on May 28 he demonstrated his versatility. In a famous game during a 7-on-7 and individual drill, Hobbs broke Jordan Love's pass, which was intended for the nervous Tucker Kraft.
"He looks great. A guy who looks important," LaFleur said. "He is a guy who I think, whether we want to play him inside or outside, he brings a lot of flexibility to our versatility."
Four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, the Packers’ new guard Aaron Banks also joined the team in free agency. Banks, 6-foot-5 and weighs 325 pounds, is a practice starting left-back, lined up next to left tackle Rasheed Walker.
Jenkins eliminated, with the first team's offensive line including Sean Rhyan and Jacob Monk spinning between center and right back, and Zach Tom tackled right.
The Banks bring a lot of game experience, including starting the Super Bowl LVIII with the 49ers and his familiarity with the Packers offensive style.
"He's a big guy, he plays a lot of football, and there are a lot of similarities in his plan from there to what we do," LaFleur said of Banks. "He gave us, obviously we know what he's capable of, but it also provides a lot of flexibility for others around us."
The Packers' preseason didn't start until August 9, but Lafleur had long looked at the team's joint practice plan.
The Packers will host the New York Jets before heading to the Indianapolis Colts on August 16 and end the game with the Seattle Seahawks at Rambo Stadium on August 23.
LaFleur said they will conduct joint practices before the preseason against the Colts and the Seahawks. They plan to do both practices two days before the competition.
