Cleveland - Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle best sums up his final title in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

"The winning team wrote the script," he said.

The Pacers' victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-105 in Game 5 Tuesday night was similar to the first two games of the series: The Cavaliers led with the biggest first half, but Indiana's fast pace ended up causing losses.

"I have to give us the honor; they won that," Carlisle said. "It's one of the best teams in the league. Sorry, their season has to end like this. They have a perfect season and we're here and it's hot at the right time."

Tyrese Haliburton scored 31 points and Pascal Siakam added 21 points as the Pacers made their way to the 2013 and 2014 finals for the first time in a row.

Donovan Mitchell missed the second half of Game 4 Sunday with a sprained left ankle, leading Cleveland with 35 points. Evan Mobley added 24 points and 11 rebounds.

The Best Seed Cavaliers played a first-round series against the Miami Heat but couldn't compete with the enthusiastic Pacers.

"We weren't favored in a game. The low point spread was 5½. It also fueled our guys," Carlisle said.

The fourth seed Pacers will wait for the winner of the game between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks. New York led 3-1 in Game 5 in Boston on Wednesday night.

ESPN Research said Indiana was the first team since the seeding began in 1984, with 4 or two drops in a row for several years. The Pacers achieved this last year as a six-seed and were swept by the ultimate champion Celtics.

The Pacers stood out from the 19-point deficit in the first half and gained control after halftime and won all three games at the Rockets Arena in Cleveland.

This is the Pacers have won three road games in the playoff series since the first round series against Boston in 2005.

The Cavaliers gave up three home games in the playoff series for the first time.

Cleveland led 44-25 with 8:10 left in the second quarter, but Halliburton had five of six 3-pointers during the period as the Pacers finished 56-52 at halftime.

"We didn't panic after that tough start in the first quarter. We talked about how we knew how they were going to throw a hayman there. But I think we got through the storm the right way and went from there."

Indiana then shot 14 shots from the field 17-2 in the third quarter, entering the final 12 minutes with a time of 85-76.

The Cavaliers shot 38.9% from the field and scored 35 of 35 of 3-pointers. Mitchell and Darius Garland have 12 of 41, including 4 of 19 outside the arc.

Mitchell's 3-pointer scored 1:27 in 106-103, but Indiana ended the Cavaliers by 8 of 8 points.

"The first half wasn't very good or fun," Carlisle said. "We got things back in the second quarter before we continued to play and put them on."
